Avionics Manufacturing Quality Inspector
Position Overview

At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Avionics Manufacturing Quality Inspector to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

Responsibilities

Position Summary:
- The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all avionics products and assemblies meet established quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
- This role supports manufacturing operations involving wire harnesses, avionics assemblies, LRUs (Line Replaceable Units), circuit card assemblies (CCAs), and various rack systems.
- The inspector ensures compliance with IPC standards and internal quality management systems through detailed inspection, testing verification, and documentation.
- This position reports directly to the Director of Quality of Prototype and Development programs
- This position works directly on the build floor in the Avionics Shop environment.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform in-process and final inspections of:
- Wire harness assemblies.
- Avionics assemblies and LRUs.
- Circuit card assemblies (CCA) including repairs/rework.
- Electrical, test, and simulator rack assemblies.
- Verify workmanship to applicable IPC standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001).
- Inspect soldering, crimping, routing, bonding, and mechanical assembly for compliance.
- Review build documentation, drawings, schematics, and work instructions for accuracy and adherence.
- Ensure all assemblies meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Document inspection results, nonconformances, and corrective actions.
- Initiate and process discrepancy reports (DRs) and nonconformance reports (NCRs).
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
- Perform first article inspections (FAI) as required.
- Verify proper handling of ESD-sensitive components and materials.
- Ensure calibration status of inspection tools and test equipment.
- Work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve issues.

Minimum Requirements

- Education/experience typically acquired through basic education (e.g. High School diploma/GED) and typically 4 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent
combination of education and experience (e.g. vocational school/Associate+2 years' related work, Bachelor, etc.).
- Working knowledge of IPC standards:
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 (Harnesses).
- IPC-A-610 (Electronics Assembly).
- J-STD-001 (Soldering).
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Engineering drawings and schematics.
- Wiring diagrams and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Experience with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, magnification devices).
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Must be a U.S. Person (as defined by ITAR regulations).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Preferred Requirements

- Current IPC certifications (CIS or CIT).
- Experience with FAA/EASA or military standards.
- Familiarity with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) requirements, contracts, or quality clauses (e.g., DFARS, MIL-STD specifications).
- Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
- Experience inspecting rack-level assemblies and system integrations.
- Knowledge of ESD, FOD prevention, and clean workmanship practices.
- Experience with ERP systems.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and wear proper PPE.
- Lift and transport objects up to 35 pounds; consistently stand, stoop, crawl, bend, crouch, climb, and kneel.
- Manual dexterity for handling small components.
- Work onsite in Manassas, VA.

Salary Range (Annualized USD)

  • Minimum Range: $52,000.00 to $93,000.00
  • Maximum Range: $63,000.00 to $112,000.00
