| Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The mission of the College of Education is to prepare and develop professionals in vocational teacher education and information/office education through effective teaching, the dissemination of knowledge, generation and application of research, and service to the educational business communities. The College is committed to the purpose of preparing educational and business professionals who are both academically and technically proficient. The teacher education programs share the additional purposes of preparing professional educators who are reflective in practice, committed to the intellectual empowerment of others, and guided by the larger democratic purposes of American education.
The mission of the College of Education's Rural Education Institute (
REI) is to facilitate partnerships and research-driven innovations that provide enhanced opportunities for pk-16 students and their families in rural communities.
REI serves as a collaborator with rural communities to research, innovate, and widely disseminate knowledge to benefit rural people and places.
REI supports all areas of the College of Education as well as the college's Latham Clinical Schools Network (
LCSN), partnerships. |
| Job Duties |
INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University in the College of Education.
The
REI Assistant Director will collaborate with the
REI Director on activities and initiatives that support the mission of the institute, college, and university. Specific roles/areas of responsibility include:
* Leading activities related to recruitment and engagement of the
REI Advisory Board;
* Collaborating with the Director and others (e.g., Senior Affiliates, Department Chairs,
COE administrators) on initiatives to engage
COE and
ECU faculty in rural-focused teaching, scholarship, and service;
* Collaborating with the Director and others (e.g., Senior Affiliates, Department Chairs,
COE administrators) on initiatives to support
COE and
ECU faculty in securing extramural funding to support rural-focused work;
* Serving as a liaison with state and national rural education organizations (e.g., the Rural Schools Collaborative);
* Identifying and nurturing opportunities for new local, state, and national partnerships with potential to support/further
REI objectives; and
* Collaborating with the Director and others (e.g., Senior Affiliates, the
REI Advisory Board,
COE administrators) on
REI operations related to strategic planning and evaluation.
The selected candidate will retain their faculty status and receive an administrative stipend. Contingent on availability of funding. |
| Minimum Education/Experience |
- Fulltime faculty who are tenured, tenure track, or hold an advanced fixedterm appointment, such as Teaching Assistant Professor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor, within the College of Education.
- Faculty with a prior relationship with REI through a project or some other initiative of importance.
