Hourly Pay Range:

$17.00 - $23.80 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Summary: The Endeavor Health Department of Comprehensive Abdominal Wall Health and Hernia Service Surgery Summer Undergraduate Research Program offers current undergraduates, going into their 3rd and 4th years, the opportunity to gain real-world, medical research experience. Endeavor Health Physicians and Scientists serve as program mentors. Students will be introduced to various types of research, which will include direct human subjects research, prospective clinical trials research, the use of artificial intelligence, and prospective data collection on abdominal wall reconstruction. The research program also offers research experience in a variety of other topics, including Artificial Intelligence, Quality Improvement, and more.

What you will do: Summer Research Fellows may participate in a variety of research activities which may include:

  • Participate in prospective research projects
  • Attend and participate in research team meetings
  • Perform searches and reviews of research literature
  • Perform video editing of unique surgical procedures for national presentation
  • Maintain a surgical video database
  • Collect and analyze data from clinical records to Build REDCap or Excel case report forms
  • Participate in writing research reports such as abstracts and manuscripts
  • Participate in analysis of data depending on the mentor's research program

  • Evaluation of Agreement Between Human Fellowship Reviewers and Large Language Models in Minimally Invasive Fellowship Applicant Scoring
  • Utility of Criteria-Led Early Discharge for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Patients
  • Empowering Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) Investigating the Feasibility and Outcomes of Patient Self-Drain Removal after Ventral Hernia Repair
  • Development and Prospective Evaluation of Criteria-Led Discharge for Robotic Transversus Abdominis Release Patients
  • Assessment of Patient Recall and Understanding Following Clinic Consultation for Complex Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
  • Maintenance of Hernia Outcomes database

What you will need:

  • Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Experience: Preference for students entering their 3rd and 4th year of study. Prior research experience required
