Job Description

The Carpentry Supervisor directs daily operations of the Carpentry and Paint Shops in support of safe, reliable, and compliant facility operations. The position supervises union trades personnel and contracted service providers performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and facility improvement work across Laboratory facilities.


The Supervisor leads a multi-disciplinary Carpentry Crew executing upgrades, alterations, and maintenance projects under Facilities Project Manager direction. Responsibilities include maintaining building integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational continuity while minimizing impacts to research activities.



This role collaborates with Facilities leadership, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Project Management, Security Services, and other operational groups to support facility readiness and infrastructure reliability.



Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, first shift. Off-hours work may be required to support project schedules, emergency response, special events, and semi-annual weekend utility shutdowns.

Key Responsibilities

* Supervise and coordinate carpentry and paint shop personnel and contractors.
* Plan and execute preventative maintenance, repairs, and facility improvement work.
* Manage Carpentry Crew activities supporting Facilities projects.
* Utilize SAP CMMS to prioritize, assign, and track work orders.
* Coordinate schedules, scope execution, and cost tracking with Project Managers.
* Monitor labor utilization, materials procurement, and budget performance.
* Oversee maintenance and repair of building envelope systems including roofing, flashing, expansion joints, exterior walls, windows, doors, and drainage systems.
* Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous materials and asbestos requirements.
* Coordinate work impacts with Security Services and Central Boiler Plant operations.
* Lead response actions during facility emergencies including outages, flooding, and infrastructure failures.
* Support workforce development through coaching, training, and performance management.
* Maintain coordination with other Trades Services shops and Laboratory departments.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience in commercial carpentry, facilities management, or construction environments.
* Demonstrated experience with remodeling, building envelope systems, roofing, framing, doors and hardware, drywall, millwork, cabinetry, and commercial flooring systems.
* Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
* Experience managing materials procurement, schedules, and scope execution.
* Union labor environment experience preferred.
* Knowledge of asbestos abatement and hazardous materials management preferred.
* High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree or higher preferred.
* Construction Supervisor's License or contractor licensing required.
* Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
* Experience with CMMS and timekeeping systems preferred.
* Ability to support scheduled utility shutdowns.
* Must be able to attain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

Physical and Operational Requirements

* Ability to respond to facility emergencies.
* Ability to work in construction and industrial environments as required.
