DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is on a journey to build and mature enterprise intelligent automation and applied artificial intelligence capabilities that deliver meaningful, measurable impact at scale. This work reflects a sustained organizational commitment to developing these capabilities as a core part of how care is delivered and supported across the health system. The purpose of UCSDH's intelligent automation efforts is grounded in the quadruple aim, using AI enabled technologies to simultaneously expand access to care, improve clinical and operational outcomes, enhance quality and safety, and support a better experience for both patients and care teams. A key focus of this work is leveraging automation and AI to reduce administrative burden and enable clinicians and staff to spend more time on direct patient care.

Central to this strategy is the Mission Control vision, which brings together real time data, automation, and AI driven decision support to provide system wide insight and action across the care continuum, including population health. The technology landscape supporting this work is intentionally dynamic, with an emphasis on identifying the best fit solutions over time while scaling a cohesive enterprise intelligent automation platform that may comprise multiple complementary tools and capabilities.

This role emerged from the Jacobs Center for Health Innovation and now operates within core UC San Diego Health Information Services under shared leadership with JCHI, maintaining close ties to innovation while driving operational scale and durability.

Position and Team

UC San Diego Health is seeking an Intelligent Automation Product Manager to lead a growing portfolio of intelligent automation and enterprise AI products that support operational and clinical transformation across the health system. This role will focus on advancing intelligent automation initiatives as well as adjacent product domains such as Enterprise AI, data science enabled products developed with JCHI, and, over time, other innovative digital health products and services aligned to this shared strategy. JCHI and Information Services closely with shared leadership and a focus on developing and scaling durable capabilities that move from innovation into enterprise operations. The position reports to the JCHI Co-Director, who provides functional leadership for Intelligent Automation and Enterprise AI initiatives and works across JCHI and Information Services stakeholders to align priorities, capabilities, and delivery.

This is a product leadership role that owns the full product lifecycle, including problem framing, solution design, prioritization, delivery planning, launch, adoption, and ongoing performance management. The role leads cross functional teams that include automation engineers, AI specialists, Epic and enterprise application teams, and system architects, with engineers and technical teams responsible for build and implementation while the Product Manager drives outcomes, value realization, and sustained operational fit, in close partnership with Operations Project Managers who lead operational change management and value realization activities. The role is distinct from technology project management positions, with the primary focus on product strategy, roadmap, design, delivery, and lifecycle management. In practice, this role is primarily product management with a limited project management component, whereas existing project management roles are primarily delivery focused with limited product management. As part of strengthening product management discipline across the organization, this role is expected to complete formal product management training aligned with the organization's product operating model.

What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate brings experience leading intelligent automation products in complex healthcare or enterprise environments, with familiarity across platforms such as Notable Health, Epic Agent Factory, Amazon QuickSuite, UiPath, and Blue Prism. The role requires comfort operating above individual tools or implementations, with an understanding of how multiple automation and AI solutions fit together as part of a cohesive enterprise intelligent automation platform. Successful candidates are motivated by improving real world health system operations and are driven to deliver solutions that create measurable impact at enterprise scale.

Experience with agentic AI systems that leverage generative and predictive models is strongly desired, including familiarity with the full product lifecycle from design and development through testing, evaluation, deployment, and ongoing monitoring and management. Candidates should be able to translate emerging AI capabilities into practical, governed, and scalable products that improve access to care, support clinical and operational teams, and deliver sustained value across the organization.

Successful candidates will also demonstrate broad familiarity with enterprise health system operations and technologies, including patient access, clinical operations, and administrative workflows, as well as cloud platforms, electronic health records, healthcare integration technologies, omnichannel engagement systems, and adjacent enterprise systems that support care delivery. The role requires the ability to work effectively across clinical, operational, technical, and vendor stakeholders, and to lead product strategy in environments where innovation, scale, and operational rigor must coexist.
