About Department 408 - Life Cycle Engineering

D408 Life Cycle Engineering is responsible for the development of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) products and maintenance of ship design requirements to maximize the Operational Availability (Ao) of all ships in the fleet. From cradle to grave, this organization is involved during early concept arrangement, detail design, new construction, and support in-service assets to ensure fleet readiness and modernization efforts. Our influence during the design phase and documentation produced directly support the ship and all maintenance stakeholder during the ship's lifecycle.

Role Overview

The Ship Systems Provisioning Groups within D408 are responsible for development and maintenance of Ship Systems (including HM&E/NPES) Provisioning Technical Documentation (PTD) for Contractor Furnished Equipment (CFE) in support of OHIO, SEAWOLF, and VIRGINIA Class submarines.

Key Responsibilities

    Prepare Provisioning Technical Documentation (PTD) in ICAPS (Integrated Computer Aided Provisioning System) and associated configuration data for all CFE components. (Note - training in the use of ICAPS can be provided)
  • Breakdown configuration worthy components into the required repair parts and identifying the lowest replaceable units (LRUs).
  • Review technical drawings, material and manufacturing specifications to determine technical ordering data and inspection requirements for CFE mechanical and piping components.
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes, non-destructive testing, welding, special emphasis programs (SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC), and special cleaning requirements.
  • Apply understanding of engineering fundamentals to provide direct support to engineering personnel, NAVSUP-WSS, and forces afloat relating to engineering evaluation of technical ordering and supply issues.


Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of combined experience within Provisioning, Navy Operations, Military Logistics, mechanical/piping repair or Naval Shipyard Trades in the following areas: STO/NTO Mechanical, Piping Trades, or Machinists (Inside or Outside)
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience reviewing technical disclosures with Teamcenter
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance through the DoD

Preferred

  • Prior U.S. Navy service in one of the following ratings: MMA, TM, MMN, LS
  • Experience working with Non-Propulsion Electronic Systems (NPES) or Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) Systems (e.g. SONAR, Ship Control, Weapons Systems, Missile Systems, Diesel, Hydraulics)
  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience working with Navy Stock System data (NSNs/APLs/AELs)
  • Experience working with submarine systems
  • Experience with component repair and repair philosophy
  • Experience reading and interpreting component and system drawings as they apply to the preparation of PTD and ordering data.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for the ability to interface with various internal and external customers
  • Basic computer proficiency
