Responsible for chemical analysis of incoming and in-process materials to verify conformance to specified chemical requirements, such as purity. Conducts testing of materials under consideration for use in products to determine fitness for use. Develops and validates new test procedures when required. Conducts special projects to support cost savings or product development activities. Chem lab testing to complete job requirements requires the use of various wet chem techniques and various pieces of test equipment. The Chemist is required to use and maintain this equipment. The Chemist is required to maintain stock of needed lab supplies. Must be able to perform independently with minimal guidance and minimal direction from manager. Must be able to implement and follow safe practices appropriate for a chem lab environment. Provides advice and support to all locations within the company. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and/or Experience: 4-year degree in chemistry or related field which includes laboratory training, plus a minimum of 4 years' experience in an analytical lab, preferably in a lead acid battery manufacturing facility. (Additional years' experience may be used in lieu of a 4-year degree.) Language Skills: Strong written and verbal English skills Mathematical Skills: Strong math skills including algebra. Reasoning Ability: Root cause problem solving Computer Skills: Microsoft Office & lab equipment software This position involves office and factory exposure including occasional exposure to high levels of background noise. The worker is also subject to hazards including a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals General Job Requirements
