CHIEF OF POLICE
The City of Firebaugh is located northwest of Fresno off Highway 33. Incorporated in 1914, Firebaugh has grown from ferry crossing to a small agriculture-based city. Before the railroad, the San Joaquin River was the major thoroughfare to upstream communities. The City of Firebaugh operates as a general law city with a City Council/City Manager form of government.
The City of Firebaugh Police Department is committed to providing excellent police service to those who live in, work in, or visit the city. Under the general direction of the City Council, the Chief of Police performs highly responsible administrative and professional work organizing, planning, coordinating, and directing all activities of the Police Department. Currently, the department has 12 sworn officers, 4 full-time dispatchers, one records supervisor, and 2 part-time dispatchers who work hand in hand with the community to ensure the quality of life in Firebaugh is maintained and enhanced. The department operates on a general fund budget of $2.7 million, in a new police station.
The City of Firebaugh is seeking an innovative, community focused, and dynamic law enforcement professional to serve as its next Chief of Police. The ideal candidate should have: - Ten (10) years of responsible law enforcement experience five (5) years of management or supervisory experience in a municipal police department or county sheriff organization.
The ideal candidate will be a visible, approachable leader who is deeply committed to community engagement and upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics. The new chief will build meaningful relationships with residents, elected officials, and community partners. A strong advocate for transparency and trust. The new chief will champion an inclusive, service-oriented culture throughout the department, ensuring that every member of the community feels seen, heard, and protected.
Filing Deadline: Friday, February 27, 2026, at 4: 00 p.m. Annual Salary: $95,197 – $127,573 negotiable (Salary placement dependent upon qualifications and experience)
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or equivalent (preferred) • Minimum age of 21 years • Valid California Driver’s License • Ten (10) years of responsible law enforcement experience • Five (5) years of management or supervisory experience in a municipal police department or county sheriff’s organization • P.O.S.T. Advance, Supervisory, or Management Certificate
Selection Process: The selection process may include application screening, panel interviews, background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and other assessments as determined by the City.
