This is a remote 4 month engagement that will likely extend to at least 6 months with a possiblity to extend up to 18 months.

About the Role

This is an unparalleled opportunity to work at the intersection of deep systems programming and modern AI tooling, making complex contributions more accessible and impactful. You will play a crucial part in designing and implementing a lightweight, home-grown operating system tailored for cloud-native environments. This involves leveraging advanced AI tools such as AI-powered code assistance, automated code review, and intelligent continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) to streamline development, enhance collaboration, and expand our vibrant open-source community. You will collaborate closely with researchers and engineers, contributing to a project that re-designs the future of operating systems in the cloud and explores state-of-the-art software engineering and system design techniques.

Key Responsibilities



  • Design and implement AI-assisted workflows across multiple repositories, including automated code review, documentation generation, and intelligent testing.
  • Enhance the developer experience by creating and maintaining AI-powered coding standards, automated onboarding tools, and intelligent instructions.
  • Improve continuous integration pipelines with AI-driven test selection, failure analysis, and performance regression detection.
  • Develop automation solutions to maintain consistency across a growing ecosystem of libraries, daemons, and tooling.
  • Implement systems for automated documentation generation and validation, ensuring synchronization with code changes.
  • Build community tooling and bots to streamline issue triaging, suggest reviewers, and assist maintainers with pull request management.


Must-Have Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a relevant field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 1-4 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with Rust and Python development.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience leveraging modern version control systems for collaborative development.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in general software development practices, including testing and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML tools for code assistance, such as large language models (LLMs) and code analysis tools.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a distributed open-source environment.
  • Foundational knowledge of operating systems concepts and low-level programming.


Nice-to-Have Qualifications



  • Proven contributions to or experience maintaining open-source projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of systems programming.
  • Familiarity with static analysis tools, linters, and code quality frameworks.
  • Experience in building developer tooling or optimizing developer workflows.
