Overview

The Behavioral Health Therapist, a licensed Master's prepared mental health professional, is responsible for the delivery of specific departmental services and for carrying out the philosophy and objectives established by Administration and the Board of Directors.

Provides group therapy to patients receiving treatment on the adult mental health units. Provides individual therapy for patients referred for individual sessions. Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care for patients. Maintains accountability for own care to assure adherence to ethical standards. Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned service area.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of the hospital's commitment to ethical behavior in all areas of personal and professional activity.
  • Ensures that social and emotional needs of individuals or groups are met through counseling in collaboration with patients and health professionals.
  • Provides individual and group therapy utilizing a variety of treatment modalities. Assumes responsibility for maintaining professional and clinical expertise.
  • Maintains accurate, concise documentation for accreditation.
  • Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
  • Provides education/information to patients, families and referral sources
  • Helps develop treatment plan options with multidisciplinary team during clinical staffing to align patient needs with available community resources.

Key Accountabilities

  • Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering the physical, social/psychological, and educational level of patients, and families). Arranges referrals for spiritual, educational, safety and related needs of patients/families.
  • Maintains accurate, concise documentation for accreditation.

Qualifications
  • Graduate in an accredited Masters or above program in a Social Science or related field (MA, MS, MSW, PhD, PsyD)
  • One year experience as a therapist/counselor
  • Independently licensed as the Master's Level or able to obtain independent license within 2 years of employment. (LMSW, LISW, LMFT, LMHC etc.)
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser
  • Demonstrate skill, organization, and efficiency in performing tasks
  • Understands the concepts of discharge planning, levels of care, payment systems and insurance requirements
  • May participate in appropriate professional organizations
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position
