National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering for Northboro, Massachusetts.
Job Purpose
To support successful and on-time delivery of substation projects including supporting the capital investment plan, distribution and transmission interconnection projects, and other emerging work or new technologies. Substation projects include green field substation as well as brownfield substation projects for equipment replacement or upgrade, rebuilds, expansion and retiring of the current substation assets.
Key Accountabilities
* You will be a technical lead for varieties of substation projects supporting capital work portfolio. Facilitate leadership to a multi-disciplined engineering team and coordination with non-engineering stakeholders. * You will be responsible for developing preliminary engineering scopes for projects including 15kV to 345kV substations working with other stakeholders. * Review conceptual scopes and layout that are created for facility planning studies and feasibility check of the options. * You will lead and oversee the substation design performed by internal designers or by external consultants. * You will be mainly responsible for reviewing physical design drawings such as electrical arrangement plan view, elevation view, conduit design, ground grid connections and design, material list. You are also responsible to ensure necessary coordination of physical design with other engineering disciplines and their design such as site-civil design, structure design and protection and control design for the substation. * Perform engineering calculations and studies as necessary to support project scope. These include but are not limited to ground grid design, lightning protection, AC and DC load calculation, bus calculation, etc. * Conduct project meetings and facilitate all required communication with internal and external stakeholders. Offer on-site and off-site construction support. * Perform QA/QC for all design packages with National Grid standards and specifications. * Procurement of substation equipment (transformers, circuit breakers, CCVT, voltage regulators, switches, switchboard panels, etc.) including creating equipment specifications, vendor outreach, RFP, proposal evaluation and make recommendations, review vendor drawings, etc. * Support Project Manager, Procurement, Estimating and Construction, Process Improvement and other corporate initiatives. * Engage with onboarding of MSA consultant with RFP, proposal evaluation and award. Manage and work with MSA consultants ensuring compliance and technical adequacy against approved standards. * Participate in incident analysis with identifying problems, investigation and engineering recommendations. * Emergency storm support for power restoration. Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required * Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of personnel. Proven interpersonal and written communication skills. * Demonstration of effective time management and task prioritization and capability to independently projects tasks and apply technical skills with minimal oversight.
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program with an emphasis on Power Systems * 10+ years of related work experience and knowledge of substation equipment, standards and code for substation design, type of substation projects and stakeholder coordination * FE exam preferred. PE license is a plus. * Proficient Office 365 Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word, etc.) * Familiarity or proficiency with ProCore, Power BI, Primavera or MS Project, Microstation, etc. (Knowledge or hands-on experience with CDEGS is plus.) * Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record * Ability to physically navigate in and around an electrical substation * Ability to describe consequences of non-contractual performance by suppliers or by National Grid and the bottom-line impact
Salary - $150,000 - $176,000 This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
