Position

SEKISUI's R&D team is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our team. The R&D Team is responsible for rapidly iterating and building cutting-edge composite parts, including commercial aerospace components, government projects, and IRAD efforts. This responsibility includes everything in the R&D manufacturing value-chain, including, but not limited to, Design for Manufacturability work, tool design & selection, process creation & optimization, vendor sourcing & interaction, quality planning, and documentation associated with the processes that the Manufacturing Engineer owns.

The right person for this role can demonstrate past holistic ownership on solving a technical challenge with a creative, physical, solution that they either personally manufactured or oversaw manufacturing on, in a fast-paced, resource-limited environment. Manufacturing Engineer III will:

  • Scale composites manufacturing processes to support high-volume production, ensuring consistent quality and reliability in mass-produced hardware systems.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing strategies specifically for high-volume composite products, focusing on efficiency, cost reduction, and maintaining stringent quality standards at scale.
  • Work with technicians and other engineers hands-on, building prototype components, with an emphasis on incorporating automation where feasible.
  • Own a portion or all of the manufacturing value chain for a certain product or set of products.
  • Work with Lead Tooling Engineer to develop novel tooling solutions for fabrication and assembly of structural parts.
  • Develop process flows, breaking down large, complex composite components into a logical part flow of sub-processes.
  • Write documentation required for successfully manufacturing at scale, such as work instructions, quality plans, inspection requirements, etc.
  • Work with material suppliers across various disciplines (prepreg, additives, core materials, metallic manufacturing, etc.) to develop repeatable, sustained processes for quick-turn development as well as at-scale production.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to creatively deliver elegant composite solutions in a resource-constrained environment
  • Demonstrated in-kind or direct team leadership skills, with backing examples
  • A genuine interest in manufacturing and thirst for learning
  • Experience in establishing qualification plans, to qualify processes and equipment to the customer specifications
  • Capable of designing or defining the requirements for the development of equipment, robotics, Lay-up molds, Vacuum Holding Fixtures, Shop Aids, Positioning fixtures, Go-No-Go inspection tools required for the manufacturing of new products

  • Understanding basic industrial engineering practices, such as, time studies, statistical analysis, ergonomic impacts, and value engineering principles

Education:

A degree in a technical field, such as engineering, mathematics, or a hard science, is preferred.

Preferred Experience:

10+ years of experience in composite manufacturing, preferably in the manufacturing or design of UAV components.

Pay

SEKISUI Aerospace is required by Washington law to include the salary range for this role when hiring a Washington resident. Pay ranges may be higher or lower for non-resident WA employees, based on the market data for their region, allowing us to pay employees competitively in different geographic markets.
