Position Description

As a Talent Acquisition Specialist within Human Resources - Talent Acquisition, you will interpret and advise hiring departments on related hiring policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. This role will assist hiring departments with the hiring process, from posting vacancies to onboarding new hires. In addition, this position may process external advertising requests and criminal background checks. Performing outreach or attending recruiting events may also be required.

About the Department and/or College

Human Resources - Talent Acquisition is dedicated to assisting applicants and hiring departments to reach successful outcomes; working to attract, hire, and retain an excellent employee population. This team oversees all phases of the recruiting and hiring process. Texas Tech University recognizes its high-performance culture, guided by principles of excellence, innovation, and impact. Major/Essential Functions

In this position, you will:

  • Assist departments with posting of open positions by reviewing, proof-reading, analyzing, and updating potential job postings.
  • Effectively organize simultaneous projects and timelines while serving as a point of contact/reference for departments on questions regarding hiring processes.
  • Provide excellent customer service and professional communication, both verbally and in writing, to all levels of individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to applicants with submission questions and errors through email correspondence, phone calls, and face-to-face.
  • Process background checks timely, to include the initial and follow-up communication to the candidates and departments, while working with management to review and send final notifications regarding hiring decisions.
  • Assist departments with processing external advertising for posted vacancies and developing recruiting strategies.
  • Act in a back-up capacity to cover the duties of other team members who may be out of the office as directed by management.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or the equivalent plus five (5) years progressively responsible experience in a related area. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Human Resources or business-related degree
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems and/or hiring processes

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
