The Principal, Data Governance will support our mission to ensure TransUnion's critical array of data assets are fully understood and appropriately governed to ensure compliance and enable innovation, speed to market, and data value maximization. The job leverages project leadership, collaboration and individual execution on deliverables to drive continuous improvement in our data management and data governance practices. Accountabilities for the role also include ensuring that new policies, standards and processes to govern TransUnion's data are socialized and consequently monitored for compliance.

As a member of the Data Governance team, you will work closely with your Data Governance teammates and business units across the whole TransUnion enterprise to fulfill your goals.

This position is in Data Governance, a discipline that has emerged at the critical intersection between data quality, data management, data policy, business process management, and risk management. Around the world, Data Governance organizations are recognized for providing the foundational set of policies, standards and processes needed by companies to manage the challenges presented by the explosive growth in data being created and used. Data governance continues to be a crucial component of TransUnion's mission to deliver 'Information for Good' to its consumers and customers. What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred fields of study include: Data Management, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Business Administration, Engineering, Statistics or similar related fields

  • At least 10 years experience participating in and managing projects related to establishing and maintaining data governance policies, standards and processes

  • Experience participating in and managing data governance and data management operations, specifically including detective monitoring, anomaly detection and correction action

  • Experience facilitating discussions with groups of stakeholders, including senior management, whose goals and accountabilities related to the data are varying and, frequently, conflicting

  • Demonstrated hands-on ability to analyze large datasets, recognize patterns and trends and organize observations into a clear and useful format

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g.Tableau, Power BI, SuperSet)

  • Extensive experience managing projects from initiation through implementation

  • A passion for data governance and how maximizing it can benefit an organization

  • Strategic, conceptual thinker with proven ability to facilitate organizational and behavioral change

  • Analytically and strategically-minded. Capable of telling the big picture story and making recommendations based on trends and details found in measurements.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be comfortable presenting ideas and information to all levels within the organization.

  • Curious, with a strong desire to learn in a hands-on environment

  • Proven customer management skills with a strong customer service orientation (desire to help others)

  • Excellent relationship building and stakeholder management skills

  • Works well under pressure and with deadlines

  • Must be a self-starter with strong planning and organizational skills, motivated by challenges, and possess a customer-focused, results-oriented attitude

Impact You'll Make:

  • Developing knowledge and expertise in the business and technical processes for the creation, cataloging, management and governance of the data underlying TransUnion's products and services

  • Designing and leading initiatives to maintain an ongoing view of TransUnion's data risks and controls, ensuring that they are mitigated in alignment with TU's strategic objectives

  • Creating, maintaining, socializing and supporting data governance policies and standards

  • Guiding the design, implementation and continuous improvement of Data Governance operations

  • Leading communities of data owners, data stewards and stakeholders of TransUnion's data in projects to address data-related issues, risks and opportunities

  • Collecting, analyzing and synthesing information from a variety of large and complex data sets to develop context and derive insight around data risks, issues and opportunities

  • Championing elevated understanding of Data Governance principles and processes

  • Developing program and project estimates, business cases and budgets

  • Developing and coordinating changes to projects plans and schedules

  • Anticipating customer needs and proactively providing relevant solutions

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Pay Scale Information : The U.S. base salary range for this position is $150,100.00 - $225,000.00 annually. *The salary range for this position reflects a reasonable estimate of the range of compensation for this job. At TransUnion, actual compensation is based on careful consideration of additional factors such as (but not limited to) an individual's education, training, work experience, job-related skill set, location, and industry knowledge, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position and market considerations. Regular, fulltime non-sales positions may be eligible to participate in TransUnion's annual bonus plan. Certain positions may be also eligible for long-term incentives and other payments based on applicable company guidance and plan documents.
