Koch Fertilizer in Wever, IA, a site with approximately 285 employees, is seeking a contribution-motivated and experienced Health, Safety, and Security Leader to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in fostering a proactive safety culture, protecting our people and assets, and enabling operational excellence. Your leadership will help ensure every team member goes home safely, while empowering others to innovate and continuously improve our safety practices.

Our Team

The Health, Safety, and Security Leader will provide leadership and strategic direction to effectively manage the facility's health, safety and security risks. This role will report to the Wever Environmental, Health, and Safety Leader and will lead a team of 3 Safety Specialists.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and develop a team of safety and security professionals, and foster a culture of continuous learning and accountability within the health, safety, and security functions.
  • Advance Health, Safety & Security risk identification and prioritization across the Site
  • Advise Site Leadership in Health, Safety & Security matters
  • Collaborate with site teams to develop appropriate solutions to mitigate site risks and improve site safety culture
  • Implement and maintain programs to improve overall site safety and health performance, including facilitating and conducting health and safety training
  • Provide field health and safety support to site operations and projects personnel
  • Ensure compliance with all facility security protocols and regulatory requirements, including oversight of third-party security personnel, to consistently meet or exceed both internal and external standards.
  • Support the development of site employees and site leaders in safety and health
  • Oversee site Emergency Response preparedness including Hazmat, High Angle Rescue, Medical and Fire Fighting
  • Support the employee occupational health surveillance program and the injury/illness case management process
  • Ensure policies and procedures are developed in alignment with corporate standards, reviewed, revised, and implemented in a timely manner
  • Identify and utilize data and reports needed to provide effective governance of site health and safety performance

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of health and safety experience in a fertilizer, chemical, or other related production industry OR 15+ years of health and safety experience in a fertilizer, chemical, or other related production industry
  • Leadership, management and/or supervision experience
  • Regulatory knowledge (including but not limited to OSHA, ACGIH, NFPA)

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Technical or Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial hygiene, EHS, engineering, or a related degree
  • Achieved, working toward or eligible for H&S certification, including CSP, CIH, etc.
  • Experience developing and implementing safety and health programs
  • Experience in and knowledge of Industrial Hygiene sampling
  • Extensive OSHA regulatory knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying regulations
  • Experience with and application of Human Organizational Performance concepts and Learning Teams
