About this opportunity:

The Office of Student Life is excited to welcome applicants for an Assistant Director opening.

This position will help to shape the student experience on campus by planning and facilitating university-wide events and programs for students.

Compensation: $40,000 - $42,000

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

The Assistant Director of Student Life for university-wide programming and events will oversee the development, execution, and promotion of programming designed to foster sense of belonging, community building, maintain campus traditions, and enhance student engagement at Ball State University. The Assistant Director will provide direction and leadership in the development of signature events and campus traditions. This position will manage operation and programming budgets, develop curricula for programs, and ensure the continuation of important campus traditions. Position requires attendance at evening and weekend events as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution prior to appointment in position.

  • Event planning, student organization involvement, marketing, or related experience.

  • Attendance at evening and weekend events as needed.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.

  • At least one year of experience in event planning/programming, student activities, housing and residence life, recreation services programming or marketing experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, facilitate, and lead university-wide programs and events engaging students with one another, building sense of belonging on campus, and fostering sense of community for students.

  • Provide on-site management for all Office of Student Life university-wide programming and events which includes; problem resolution, on-site supervision of OSL event staff and volunteers, vendor communication, and all other event related aspects. Examples of events and programs include, but are not limited to: Weeks of Welcome events, Family Weekend programming, Grocery Bingo, and Late Nite Carnival.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise graduate assistant(s) and student staff.

  • Initiate all contractual arrangements with performers, agents, and vendors utilized by the Office of Student Life for university-wide events and programs.

  • Lead event specific marketing planning and ordering for large scale programs while working in partnership with Office of Student Life staff and graduate assistant(s) focused on office marketing and communications to ensure cohesive and effective promotion across university-wide events and the office marketing plan in general.

  • Collaborate with campus partners on programming.

  • Monitor a budget in excess of $300,000.

  • Evaluate event offerings by conducting event specific assessments to ensure learning outcomes are being met and to identify areas for improvement.

  • Serve as a resource person to the Office of Student Life, Division of Student Affairs, and other university departments in the development of comprehensive programs.

  • Co-Advise the BSU Dance Marathon student organization.

  • Represent the Office of Student Life and Division of Student Affairs on committees, task forces, special initiatives, working groups and professional associations. Serve as a presenter and participant in Cardinal Preview Days, Admissions Receptions, Admitted Student Day, Orientation, and other events as assigned.

  • Support the general operation of the Office of Student Life as needed, including participating in all department meetings and initiatives, auxiliary assignments, and assisting in the delivery of signature programs.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
