Job Description
Missouri S&T seeks an experienced, strategic leader to serve as the Director of Career Opportunities and Employer Relations (COER). The director is responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving Missouri S&T's comprehensive career services and employer relations department. This role provides leadership, vision and direction for all aspects of career readiness, employer relations, and career education while ensuring alignment with institutional goals for student success and post-graduation outcomes. Missouri S&T is ranked #3 in Best Public University for Career Placement and #5 in Best Public School for Internships by the Princeton Review (2025). S&T is the only university in Missouri ranked in the top 10 for salary impact by The Wall Street Journal. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Strategy
- Provide executive oversight of all department operations, including online career resources, websites, job search and recruiting platforms, and the employer database
- Supervise, motivate, and mentor a team of career professionals, fostering innovation, high performance, and a culture of continuous improvement
- Manage departmental budgets, strategic resource allocation, and revenue-generating opportunities tied to employer engagement and major events
- Stay current with employment trends, major-specific hiring practices, evolving labor market demands, and emerging career pathways
- Maintain knowledge of undergraduate and graduate curriculum-including majors, minors, and certificates-to effectively connect academic programs with industry needs
- Develop and implement creative, proactive marketing strategies to increase student awareness and utilization of career services and programming.
Employer & External Relations
- Lead and grow the department's formal corporate partnership or sponsorship programs
- Design strategies to diversify and expand the employer pool, targeting industries and organizations that align with campus goals and student interest areas
- Represent Missouri S&T with corporate partners, advisory groups, industry associations, and professional organizations
Collaboration & Campus Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with campus leadership, academic departments, and faculty to strengthen career readiness integration and maximize internship, co-op, and full-time placement outcomes
- Collaborate with units across campus to support student engagement and amplify the impact of career initiatives
- Provide guidance and support for campus partner initiatives, ensuring the career services team contributes meaningfully to institutional goals
Assessment, Reporting & Data Management
- Oversee all aspects of graduate success outcomes data collection, analysis, and reporting in accordance with NACE standards
- Collaborate with Business Intelligence to design, publish, and promote the annual graduate outcomes report
- Provide timely data, insights, and customized reports to institutional leadership, academic departments, and external stakeholders
- Track, analyze, and report on recruiting trends, student engagement levels, employer activity, and workforce outcomes to guide strategic decision-making
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direction is received from the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Achievement and Enrichment in the Division of Student Success. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision is exercised either directly or indirectly over all department staff members. Has accountability for the performance and results of the COER department.
Shift
- On-campus presence required
- Some travel, evening, and weekend responsibilities expected during peak recruitment and event cycles
Minimum Qualifications
A master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business Administration, Leadership, or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in career services, employer relations, workforce development, or related areas
- Demonstrated success leading teams, managing budgets, and driving organizational strategy
- Proven ability to develop strategic partnerships and navigate complex campus and employer ecosystems
- Strong understanding of employment trends, recruitment practices, labor market dynamics, and career readiness frameworks
- Exceptional communication, leadership, relationship-building, and organizational skills
- Experience leading a centralized career services model
- Successful track record of developing innovative programs, employer partnerships, or technology-based solutions
- Experience presenting to senior leaders, boards, and external stakeholders
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $80,143-$88,000 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
