Job Summary

The incumbent will provide programmatic, administrative and research support to the University of California Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center's (UCD CCC) Office of Community Outreach and Engagement. The position supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of cancer control and prevention initiatives designed to reduce the cancer burden across the UCD CCC's 19-county catchment area. Key responsibilities include engaging community partners to promote cancer prevention, risk reduction, and screening; serving as a liaison between community stakeholders and the Cancer Center; developing and disseminating culturally appropriate cancer education materials; recruiting and enrolling participants into outreach programs and research studies; and collecting, managing, and analyzing program and research data. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree in public health or a related field (e.g. health science, nutrition, education, communication, sociology, social science, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Community outreach experience.
  • Health promotion and education experience.
  • Project coordination and/or management experience.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data.
  • Understanding of cancer control and prevention.
  • Knowledge of the socio-economic, cultural patterns and backgrounds of diverse communities.
  • Culturally competent regarding communities within the catchment area.
  • Professional oral communication skills, tact and diplomacy, and skills to maintain composure in dealing with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Experience working independently, exercising good judgment, and decision-making with skills to resolve conflicts.
  • Writing, editing and proofreading skills with experience to accurately produce correspondence and other written technical, scientific and medical materials.
  • Confidence and experience in providing educational sessions and trainings to others.
  • Proficiency and experience with but not limited to: PC, Outlook, Windows, Word, Excel (or similar spreadsheet programs), PowerPoint, Internet Web products and other programs, and on-line scheduling, on-line service/on-line access requests.

The University of California, Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement catalyzes, conducts and leads bidirectional outreach and engagement that addresses the cancer control, prevention and research needs of our 19 county catchment area (Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Merced, Nevada, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Sierra, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Placer, Yolo and Yuba).

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.

This is a grant funded position. Funding is contingent on annual grant funding. Ability to travel within UCD CCC's 19 county catchment area to conduct community outreach and engagement activities. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for outreach and engagement activities.
