ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Ready Mix Leadman/Batchman is responsible for overseeing daily concrete batching operations, ensuring accurate and efficient production of ready-mix concrete. This role coordinates plant activities, monitors equipment, maintains quality control standards, and provides leadership to plant personnel to ensure safe, consistent, and timely delivery of concrete products.

This is a full-time position: overtime as required. May include early mornings, evenings, night, weekends, holidays, or on-call duties depending on production needs.
- Timely and regular attendance is essential.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)

BATCHING & PRODUCTION
1. Operate and monitor computerized batching systems to produce concrete according to mix designs and customer specifications.
2. Ensure proper proportions of materials including aggregates, cement, admixtures, and water.
3. Adjust mixes as needed for moisture, slump, temperature, and job-specific requirements.
4. Coordinate with drivers to schedule loads and maintain a steady production flow.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

PLANT OPERATIONS
1. Oversee the daily functioning of the ready-mix plant, including equipment startup and shutdown.
2. Inspect plant equipment regularly; report or perform minor maintenance and repairs as needed.
3. Maintain inventory levels of raw materials and coordinate deliveries to prevent shortages.
4. Monitor plant cleanliness and housekeeping to meet safety and environmental standards.

QUALITY CONTROL
1. Work with QC personnel to ensure concrete meets all specifications and regulatory requirements.
2. Perform basic field tests (slump, temperature, unit weight) when required.
3. Document batching data accurately for regulatory and internal compliance.

LEADERSHIP & TEAM COOPERATION
1. Serve as lead on shift, providing directions to drivers, loader operators, and yard staff.
2. Assist with training new employees on batching procedures and safety policies.
3. Communicate effectively with dispatch, sales, QC, and management regarding production status and issues.

SAFETY & COMPLIANCE

1. Enforce company safety rules and ensure compliance with OSHA and state regulations.
2. Conduct pre-operation inspections and maintain required safety records.
3. Address hazards promptly and promote a culture of safe work practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)

1. Experience in ready-mix or heavy industrial operations.
2. Knowledge of concrete materials, batching procedures, and mix design fundamentals.
3. Ability to operate batching systems, loaders, and other plant equipment.
4. Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
5. Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)

1. Prior experience as a batchman or ready-mix plant operator.
2. DOT knowledge and understanding of truck loading procedures.
3. Mechanical aptitude for minor plant repairs.
4. Computer skills (batching software, basic Excel, etc.).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Ability to stand for extended periods and climb ladders or stairs.
2. Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
3. Work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, dust, noise).
