Business (Marketing) - Full-time Faculty

About the role
  • Bethel University is searching for a Christ-focused full-time Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to teach professional selling and/or other relevant business courses. The salary range for a standard teaching load for an Assistant Professor is $55,599 - $70,043; Associate Professor is $62,927 - $84,168; and Full Professor is $77,265 - $95,904. We also encourage/allow up to 8 hours per week directed at external activities, assuming they are relevant to business (e.g., consulting, training, other).

Responsibilities

In addition to teaching, scholarship, and service responsibilities, the successful candidate will lead efforts to develop and implement a professional selling program within the School of Business and Communication. The usual teaching load for our professors is 24 credits per year, but the position offers an annual 8-credit teaching release for administrative duties involved with developing and implementing the new program. Typical courses at Bethel Business are 4-credit courses, so the usual teaching load for this position will be two 4-credit courses in each of the fall and spring semesters.

The activities involved with developing and implementing the professional selling program will include:
  • Benchmark program against peer university programs
  • Determine regional industry needs for sales professionals
  • Design and implement courses and programs necessary for implementing a successful professional selling program
  • Maintain clear integration of Christian faith in the program and curriculum with a goal of helping students integrate their faith into practice
  • Develop and implement an Industry Partner program to provide funds sufficient to offset program-related operating expenses. The goal is for the program to be self-funding within three years via endowment proceeds and other sources. There is an expectation that the program will also contribute to the financial health of the School of Business and Communication.
  • Work with the appropriate Bethel entities (e.g., Dean, President, University Advancement, Bethel Foundation) for endowment fundraising
  • Recruit select students to participate in the program
  • Oversee content development for program web site, social media, and other communication activities
  • Plan, organize, and implement program events
  • Coach and accompany students as they participate in regional and national sales competitions
  • Develop and implement a rolling three-year strategic plan
  • Develop and maintain an engaged advisory board
  • Establish metrics to define progress (e.g., number of students, fundraising)
  • Work with students and employers to create opportunities for internships/full-time roles
  • Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the department and the discipline

Skills
  • Extensive understanding of the professional selling process
  • Well-versed on social media channels
  • Strong organizational skills

Experience
  • At least five years of substantive business experience in professional selling, sales management, fundraising, and/or sales training is required, the more recent the better. College-level teaching experience is preferred. Experience with similar university sales programs is desirable. Importantly, the candidate must provide clear evidence of ongoing Christian faith and practice.

Education
  • An advanced degree in a business- or marketing-related area is required. A terminal degree in a business- or marketing-related area is preferred.

  • This position will be based on Bethel University's St. Paul, MN, campus. The position is not eligible for remote work.
