Position Summary

Operate silicone extruders and monitor for proper product quality

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Review schedule for production requirements and plan job duties accordingly

  2. Mill silicone per specification and prep hose for extrusion

  3. Set up extruder for vertical, horizontal extruded wrap and horizontal manual wrap according to manufacturing specifications

  4. Cut and send test samples to lab for product quality control

  5. Measure actual OD of base hose, review maximum/minimum OD for silicone covered hose and review wall thickness requirement

  6. Record all necessary data for traceability and conformance to specifications

  7. Provide Hose Coiling with reeled products for inspection

  8. Maintain work area in clean and orderly fashion, follow 5s practices

  9. Know and practice all safety regulations and quality guidelines

  10. Report production issues to Direct Lead

  11. Perform work of an equal or lower classification

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures, and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment. Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk. Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.

  2. Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.

  3. Participate in peer-based teams (i.e., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S.
  4. Other duties may be assigned at a later time.

Qualifications

Education required:

High School diploma or GED

Experience:

One (1) year experience in manufacturing facility preferred

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  1. Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  2. Basic knowledge and use of hand tools

  3. Sound decision making skills

  4. Good math, reading, writing skills

  5. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

  6. Strong trouble shooting skills

  7. Be able to exercise continuous mental, visual, and audio attention

  8. Ability to work well in a team environment

Skills/Competencies:

1. Basic computer skills

2. Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

3. Vision: Near acuity and accommodation for reading information to perform job tasks.

4. Requires constant alertness to surroundings and product quality with attention to detail.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

  • Report directly to Value Stream Team Leader

  • Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The employee may be subject to:

  1. High noise levels from operating machines and equipment.

  2. Physical hazards from operating machines and moving reels.

  1. Work in areas where safety equipment will be required (steel toe shoes, eye protection, hearing protection)

  2. Standing is required for extended periods of time. Walking, pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, turning, twisting, squatting, and lifting is performed on a regular basis

  3. Requires high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions

  4. Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
