About the role Symetra's Individual Life Division has an opening for a Life Underwriting Manager. This role will lead a team of underwriters who support our Direct Marketing partners through Symetra's award winning Swift Digital application process.Ideal candidates will have a passion for customer service, employee development, and growth. What you'll do in this role Provides direction, guidance and oversight of services for team members engaged in appraising and underwriting applications for life insurance, assessing mortality and morbidity within company guidelines. Charged with building the expertise of technically competent underwriters, providing co-signs and driving the team to meet service level expectations. The Manager will identify opportunities for profitable growth to achieve a balanced, sound and quality book while protecting company's assets. Be responsible for the team's ability to meet the company's financial objectives as well as ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and legal requirements. Responsible for developing and maintaining highly effective business relationships with both internal and external partners in order to attract, develop and retain profitable business for the division. Develop direct reports by helping to form individual development plans and understanding career goals of each team member Advancing manager, manages the work of others through leads, unit managers and senior level individual contributors.
