Job Description

Coordinates healthcare services through interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize patient outcomes and enhance physician/provider productivity. Provides patient care under physician direction, including collecting and documenting health information, incorporating patient education, and ensuring patients are prepared for their clinical encounters through pre-visit planning and referral coordination. Works closely with the physician by accompanying the practitioner during patient encounters. Provides comprehensive clinical assistance during MOHS surgery and other dermatologic procedures including patient preparation, local anesthesia administration, intraoperative assistance (maintaining local anesthesia), and post-operative care including bandage changes and suture removal. The MOHS MA ensures a safe, sterile, and efficient surgical environment while providing compassionate, patient-centered care.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or 1 year experience in direct patient care role in the last 3 years.
  • Active RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) or NRCMA (Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant) Certification. [Beginning 2/1/2024, all new hires and internal transfers are required to possess the RMA or NRCMA certification and maintain for continued employment.]
  • Current BLS certification upon hire and maintained for continued employment.
  • 3 years certified MA experience
  • Minimum 1- 2 years of MOHS experience, or successful completion of UH competencies training
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in local anesthesia administration and maintenance under physician supervision.
  • Excellent understanding of sterile technique and surgical assisting principles.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in autonomy, as a self-starter and engaging team-player.
  • Demonstrate an ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with governing HIPPA regulations.
  • Professional appearance and ability to represent the organization and/or University Health in a way that increases patient satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of MOHs experience.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve to create positive outcomes.
