Overview

The Area Safety Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing safety performance across an assigned geographic region or portfolio of construction projects. This role ensures the consistent implementation of corporate safety programs, policies, and procedures while driving continuous improvement in jobsite safety, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction.

The Area Safety Manager provides strategic leadership to Senior Safety Managers, supports project and operations leadership, and serves as a key liaison between field teams and the Director of EH&S. This position requires frequent travel to active project sites for audits, coaching, safety planning, training, and safety campaign execution. Responsibilities also include supporting new site mobilization related to safety setup, signage, supplies, and safety documentation structure.

Location & Travel Details: You'll get the opportunity to travel across the US, helping our team build infrastructure projects. This is a traveling position, up to 100% of the time. You have the potential to be placed on a project site located in various states throughout the US. (Full List : NC, VA, GA, TX, FL, IA, WY) You'll spend 6-8 months on average per project. If eligible, we offer designated daily per diem in addition to base pay to support and help you cover living expenses and relocation assistance. If eligible, the position includes a vehicle allowance. If eligible, travel home rotation will be one weekend per month away from the jobsite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and oversee Senior Safety Managers to ensure consistent execution of safety programs across all assigned projects.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve safety programs, policies, and procedures tailored to regional and project-specific risks.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate safety strategy, OSHA regulations, and company standards.
  • Oversee High-Risk Activity policies across assigned projects and ensure Site-Specific Safety Manuals are maintained and current.
  • Conduct and/or oversee regular jobsite safety assessments and audits to identify hazards, trends, and compliance gaps.
  • Direct corrective action planning and verify follow-through to mitigate safety risks and improve jobsite performance.
  • Partner with project executives, project managers, and superintendents to embed safety accountability into operations.
  • Lead regional safety meetings with clients, project leadership teams, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure employees and subcontractors receive required safety training and maintain appropriate certifications.
  • Support Senior Safety Managers in coaching project teams on hazard recognition, safe work practices, and emergency preparedness.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and ensure regional safety programs remain compliant.
  • Lead or oversee investigations into serious incidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure timely documentation, reporting, and communication of safety incidents in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee injury case management, workers' compensation coordination, and insurance claim support in partnership with corporate risk and safety teams.
  • Maintain and review emergency response plans for assigned projects, including natural disasters, fires, severe weather, and hazardous material incidents.
  • Ensure emergency drills and preparedness exercises are conducted and evaluated.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety awareness, accountability, and engagement across all levels of the organization.
  • Communicate safety performance, trends, and improvement strategies to senior leadership.
  • Support safety staffing, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development within the regional safety team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and innovative safety solutions across regional operations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a safety-related field/supervision and management is highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive construction safety experience
  • Appropriate certification, CHST, ASP, and CSP, is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the construction field
  • Hands-on practitioner dedicated to the role and subject matter.
  • Capable of seeing the big picture
  • Must be a progressive learner willing and able to grow into larger roles of responsibility.
  • Proven track record with accident investigations and follow-through
  • Auditing experience
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; can articulate safety within a business framework.
  • Creativity, innovation, and the ability to solve problems and generate viable solutions.
  • Approachable and effective with the ability to influence change across all levels of the organization.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
