Position Summary

Responsible for managing and delivering catering and housekeeping services onboard the IMR vessel, ensuring high standards of hygiene, food quality, accommodation, and welfare for a Persons on Board (POB) of up to 110. Oversees galley operations, provision control, sanitation, and customer service in compliance with company policies and maritime regulations.


Duties And Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL:

  • Oversees galley operations, plans menus, oversees preparation of balanced meals to POB up to 110, accommodating dietary needs and cultural preferences.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of galley, pantry, mess rooms, and accommodation spaces to company standards.
  • Implement and comply with food safety management systems (e.g., HACCP) and sanitation procedures.
  • Manage inventory of provisions and cleaning materials; perform stock checks, rotation, and timely requisitions.
  • Operate and maintain galley equipment; report defects and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of provisions, consumption, and catering costs; submit reports as required.
  • Coordinate laundry services and routine housekeeping, including cabin checks and linen changes.
  • Support onboarding/orientation of crew on accommodation rules, mess etiquette, and hygiene practices.
  • Participate in safety meetings, drills, and toolbox talks; ensure safe systems of work in catering areas.
  • Deliver consistently high service standards and customer focus to crew and visiting personnel.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience as Chief Steward/Steward Cook or similar role on offshore vessels or platforms.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and catering operations (HACCP, allergen control, temperature logging).
  • TWIC and valid USCG Merchant Marine Credential
  • Valid passport.

PREFERRED:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Culinary training or certification (e.g., culinary school diploma).
  • Experience on IMR, subsea support, or similar offshore vessels.
  • Basic knowledge of purchasing/provisioning systems.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Strong organization, menu planning, and time management.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain standards under operational pressure and vessel motion.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; professional customer service mindset.
  • Commitment to safety, hygiene compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Basic computer literacy for inventory and reporting.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Outdoors and indoors, day and night, as well as over/near water.
  • Requires working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • Frequently the humidity is above 90%, noise is over 85 decibels and the light is intense/glare.
  • Potential exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Constant exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Work surface is stable, height is elevated.
