Essential Job Functions:



  • Actively calls on prospective commercial and small-business customers and referral contracts.
  • Develops a well-balanced loan portfolio by calling on new customers and prospects to build relationships with realtors, builders, developers, and other potential referral sources.
  • Proactively identifies new lending opportunities within the community.
  • Participates in community and networking events to enhance the bank's visibility and reputation.
  • Interviews loan applicants to develop information concerning their needs, desires, abilities, and earnings to determine whether a loan may be an acceptable risk.
  • Ensures all required information is completed on loan applications and orders credit reports for both in-house and commercial market loans.
  • Makes decisions on loans, balancing profitability and risk, and determines if the loan is within lending limits and prescribed guidelines.
  • Originates quality loans and actively cross-sells bank services to customers.
  • Notifies applicants of loan decisions and corresponds with customers, applicants, or creditors to resolve questions with application information.
  • Prepares loan packages in accordance with financial standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in, attends, and provides loan status reports at weekly loan committee meetings.
  • Performs loan collection activities such as correspondence, telephone contacts, personal visits, and repossessions.
  • Manages delinquent account files for the financial institution by collecting overdue payments, negotiating with delinquent borrowers for reinstatement, and creating foreclosure notices.
  • Conducts appraisals and inspections of collateral as requested.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the bank's lending policies and procedures and attends various educational programs to keep abreast of new loan and banking trends, policies, and procedures.
  • Reviews the non-post items report on a daily basis.
  • Works with federal and state examiners as well as, outside independent auditors in their regular official examinations of the bank.
  • Attends educational programs and training sessions to keep abreast of new loan and banking trends, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Uses problem-solving and team building skills to resolve difficult customer issues.
  • Follows bank policies and procedures, including state and federal regulations at all times.
  • Maintains departmental appearance, both personal and general.
  • Serves customers in a cordial and professional manner to ensure customer satisfaction with service provided by the bank and upholds customer service guidelines.
  • Takes advantage of opportunities to promote the Bank when involved in voluntary community activities and civic organizations to cross sell the Bank's products and services.
  • Assists in other departments as needed and acts as a resource to other departments regarding lending issues.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business management, or equivalent business experience preferred.
  • Five years prior experience in a financial institution or lending setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of local market and business community.
  • A working knowledge of commercial credit analysis and the bank's services.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Knowledge of the bank's departmental operations, policies, procedures, and compliance regulations preferred.
  • Proven sound judgement and risk awareness.
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and loan risk.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and changing technology, including word-processing, spreadsheets, Internet, and internal bank software.
  • Prior experience in a customer service environment preferred.
  • Previous cross-selling and sales experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for accuracy with numbers.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate across a broad base of internal customers.
  • Ability to concentrate on complex projects.
  • Excellent human relations/customer service skills to effectively interact with customers and co-workers.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented.
