Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a technically deep Jira and Confluence Administrator / Developer with 4 - 6 software development experience and a Secret Clearance to support, customize, and optimize our Atlassian infrastructure. This role will partner closely with engineering, project, and IT teams to streamline workflows, improve productivity, and ensure Jira-Confluence align with project requirements and best practices. This role functions as an internal platform engineer, responsible for system architecture, automation, integration, and performance of Jira and Confluence.



Responsibilities

    Administer, configure, and maintain Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Jira Assets, and Confluence
  • Design and optimize Jira workflows, issue types, custom fields, screens, and permissions
  • Develop and maintain Jira automations, dashboards, and reports for engineering and leadership
  • Manage Confluence spaces, templates, permissions, and knowledge architecture
  • Integrate Jira and Confluence with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and other development tools
  • Create data-driven dashboards using Jira Query Language (JQL), custom metrics, and third-party reporting tools
  • Troubleshoot system issues, performance bottlenecks, and user access problems
  • Evaluate, install, and maintain Atlassian Marketplace apps; develop custom plugins where required
  • Provide user training, documentation, and best-practice guidance
  • Lead Jira/Confluence cloud migrations, upgrades, and performance tuning
  • Ensure security, compliance, and data integrity across Atlassian tools

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • Active Secret Security Clearance. Willing to obtain TS/SCI
  • 4-6 years of hands-on experience administering Jira and Confluence
  • Software development experience (Java, Python, Groovy, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of Agile and DevOps practices
  • Experience with Jira automation, scripting, or REST APIs
  • Familiarity with source control systems (Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Atlassian Certified Professional (ACP) credentials
  • DoD 8140 Certification Preferred
  • Experience integrating Atlassian tools with CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps)
  • Knowledge of cloud administration (Atlassian Cloud, AWS, Azure)
  • Experience supporting large-scale or enterprise Jira implementations
  • Exposure to ITSM frameworks and Jira Service Management

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $94,400.00/Yr. - USD $157,600.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
