Optum Program Integrity Analytics is a suite of complementary, web-based components that mine provider, member and claims data for potential fraud, waste and abuse; provide software research tools; and track subsequent investigation activity. The PI Analytics team is comprised of individuals with a variety of technical expertise from databases, business intelligence reporting, and web-based tools.

The PI team is looking for a data-focused data engineer to quickly develop a comprehensive understanding of fraud, waste and abuse detection software. The analyst should have the ability to collaborate with multiple roles including fellow business analysts, data engineers, software engineers and report developers. This individual will be involved in many phases of an implementation project and/or an operational project and become familiar with the database structures, testing software, ND documentation. This role will be key in the successful implementation of new projects and the maintenance of existing projects.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the full software development and implementation lifecycle
  • Lead the development and management of ETL processes for Program Integrity data marts in Snowflake and SQL Server
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) to support ETL operations and Peer Group Profiling procedures and outputs
  • Implement and manage DevOps practices to ensure efficient data loading and workload balancing within the Program Integrity data mart
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data integration and consistent data flow across platforms
  • Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot data pipelines and workflows to maintain performance and reliability
  • Independently identify and resolve complex technical issues to maintain operational efficiency
  • Communicate effectively and foster collaboration across teams to support project execution and alignment
  • Apply advanced analytical skills and attention to detail to uphold data accuracy and quality in all deliverables
  • Lead cloud-based project delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines, scope, and performance benchmarks
  • Ensure data security and compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Share knowledge (train) other team members and business users on any of the skills listed above

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on expertise in cloud-based data engineering and data warehousing, with a strong emphasis on building scalable and efficient data solutions
  • 5+ years of focused experience in Snowflake, including the design, development, and maintenance of automated data ingestion workflows using Snowflake SQL procedures and Python scripting
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Azure data tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF), SQL Server, and Blob Storage, alongside Snowflake
  • 2+ years of experience with Python and other scripting languages for data manipulation and automation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Azure or Snowflake
  • Experience with data modeling and database design
  • Recent experience with medical claims processing systems, including familiarity with core functionalities, workflows, and data structures used in healthcare claims management
  • Data science and analytics experience
  • Knowledge of data governance and data quality best practices
  • Familiarity with other cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $89,900 to $160,600 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
