Job Summary

This position assists in providing instruction and hands-on learning experiences in Engineering and related instructional areas. Responsibilities include organizing, demonstrating, repairing, and maintaining shop equipment (power equipment, woodworking tools), computers, and materials used in lectures and workshop settings. The role assists in developing training aids and instructional materials, prepares lab set-ups, and provides support during lab sessions by responding to student inquiries and ensuring a safe, productive learning environment. The position also leads and monitors students in the proper use, preparation, and cleaning of shop equipment, while maintaining inventories, equipment records, and supply needs. Additional duties include performing equipment installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting; monitoring equipment storage and operation; coordinating vendor communications; analyzing supply requirements; and preparing reports to support program operations.

Essential Functions

25% Instructional Support & Student Assistance
Supports teaching activities by assisting with instruction, training, advisement, lab demonstrations, and responding to student inquiries.

25% Lab & Equipment Preparation
Prepares lab set-ups, organizes materials, and ensures equipment, tools, and technology are ready and safe for instructional use.

15% Equipment Operation, Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Operates, installs, repairs, maintains, and troubleshoots shop equipment, tools, computers, and related technologies.

15% Inventory & Resource Management
Receives, tracks, and maintains supplies and equipment; manages inventory records; monitors storage and preventative maintenance needs; and initiates purchasing processes.

15% Student & Safety Oversight
Leads and monitors students using shop equipment, ensuring proper operation, cleaning, safety practices, and adherence to lab procedures.

5% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of experience such as providing assistance to students in an instructional setting; and/or preparing, maintaining and delivering equipment, supplies or other related instructional materials used for laboratory activities in area of assignment.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

A. An Associate's degree in Engineering or Construction Management

B. Two (2) years' work experience in an engineering or construction-related field.

C. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in repairing, installing, and receiving equipment and/or materials.

D. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in organizing and developing training aids and/or instructional materials.

E. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in assisting students in a student lab or workshop and responding to student inquiries.

F. Experience in maintaining safety standards for the use of equipment in classrooms and/or learning labs.

Special Working Conditions

Work is performed in a design and fabrication workshop and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to hazardous physical conditions (such as mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, etc.); moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as chemicals, blood or other body fluids); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or threatening environment); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures or intense noise.
