Supplier Quality Engineer

The Supplier Quality Engineer will work
with cross functional teams and facility suppliers to drive improvements in cost, quality, and delivery
within the supplier base.

We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with suppliers for continuous improvement in technology, quality, quality control, delivery, and cost to meet highest standards and end-customer requirements and expectations.
  • Manages all supplier quality programs, including supplier audit programs (in conjunction with compliance) and certifications, supplier risk assessments and mitigations, and on-going supplier monitoring and reporting.
  • Leads supplier quality escape root cause and corrective actions with supplier by applying DCO CAB process.
  • Accounts for Supplier COPQ records and chargebacks by working with the supply chain management team.
  • Leads supplier developments and qualifications, including manufacturing process controls, engineering capabilities, capacity confirmations & certifications, and supports commodity strategy development and execution.
  • Leads supplier prototype sample and first mass production qualification and approval (First Article) according to DCO Q-codes.
  • Leads and works with suppliers on Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) as required.
  • Participates in new programs and production developments. Review drawings, specifications, customer PO's, and other related documents for inspection requirements to flow to suppliers. Works with supplier for DFMEA and PFMEA requirements and capabilities.
  • Leads supplier audits to ensure compliance with ISO, AS, NADCAP, and other key regulatory standards.
  • Conducts detailed, periodic, and processed quality systems and cost structure reviews at selected suppliers.
  • Works closely with the Supply Chain, Product Integrity, and Manufacturing teams in the development of key processes to enhance supplier communication and understanding of Ducommun business practices.
  • Provides supply base training as needed to support improvement activities in the areas of statistical methods, assessment tool methodology, defect mapping, lean manufacturing, and 6S methodology.
  • Participates in supplier monthly metrics, scorecard reviews, and supplier improvement actions.
  • Supports cost reduction and productivity improvement efforts, including in-sourcing projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • BA / BS/BE in Engineering, Materials and Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Business, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in aerospace, automotive, or mechanical manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years direct experience in supplier quality, supply chain quality management, and/or manufacturing quality engineering in driving proactive supply and quality activities in improving on-time delivery, quality performance, and successful implementation of systemic root cause corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, TQM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, in one or more recognized Quality Management System standards (ISO 9001, AS 9100, ISO 13485, TS 16949, TL 9100).
  • Working knowledge in the development and deployment of lean manufacturing practices to include value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen (CIP) activity and waste reduction.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems including supplier performance.
  • Demonstrated background in supply base performance improvement.
  • Broad knowledge of various quality management tools, including but not limited to SPC and Six-Sigma principles.
  • Excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach and an ability to build and maintain strong effective business relationships in a team-based environment.
  • Intermediate level of computer skills in email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Leadership skills, people management, meeting facilitation and customer support.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and adapt within a rapidly changing environment.
  • Flexible with high energy, able to handle multiple tasks smoothly.
  • Very organized, detail-oriented, with attention to accuracy.

Licenses & Certifications

  • ASQ Certified Green Belt/Black Belt or equivalent recognized certification is preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor is preferred.
  • RABQSA/ICRA ISO 9001:2000 Lead Auditor is preferred.

Pay Range: $81,150-101,400/year

Base Compensation: USD 81,150.00 - 101,400.00 Paid Salaried
