THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will serve as the front line of our agency, responsible for the overall operational planning, direction, supervision, and coordination of intake services. You will be responsible for reviewing reports of suspected child abuse to determine the safety of the child and the need for the provision of protective services, as well as reviewing the safety and risk assessments to ensure service needs are addressed in the family service plan. Work involves ensuring staff compliance with all mandates and policies through oversight while encouraging consistent and ongoing staff professional development. Administrative functions include completing annual performance evaluations, identifying areas of strength and weakness, as well as monitoring and approving appropriate use of time by staff. Having the ability to establish and maintain working relationships is key in this position as you will have the opportunity to coordinate activities with multidisciplinary teams, consult with other Children and Youth Services units regarding suspected child abuse, and work cooperatively with local law enforcement to promote joint investigations. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Presenting community education regarding child abuse, addressing topics such as prevention, identification, reporting procedures, mandated reporter, and community trends and needs
  • Participating in the interview process for the hiring of applicants in relation to vacancies within the C.P.S. Intake Unit
  • Making recommendations regarding personnel actions within the unit when required to address performance deficits
  • Attending court related activities
  • Completing trainings regarding CPSL to expand upon your knowledge and skills in all aspects of child abuse, supervision, and staff training

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional experience in public or private social work and a bachelor's degree with major course work in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Luzerne County. If no eligible candidates who live within Luzerne County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
