OPERATING ENGINEER-GROUP C CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION HVAC Plant Division Number of Positions: 2 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $58.95 HOURLY (PR) Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CST on 1/04/2026 These positions are open to the public and to all current city employees covered under the terms of the City's collective bargaining agreement with the INTERNATIONAL UNION OF OPERATING ENGINEERS, LOCAL 399 (BU #12). Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Under immediate supervision, operates and maintains steam turbine and electric motor-driven pumps, high pressure boilers, fans, and heating and air conditioning units in City buildings, water purification plants, heating and refrigeration plants, and pumping stations, and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Additional duties may be required for this position CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION Location: O'Hare International Airport Hours: 40 per week Shifts/Days Off: Vary, Holidays and Weekends. Note: Days and shifts to be covered on as needed (24/7) basis THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE Candidate(s) selected for hire must pass a background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA). Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A combination of education, training, and experience suitable to obtain a Stationary Engineer's License. Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications A valid Stationary Engineer's license issued by the City of Chicago is required. Certification as a Universal technician as required by 40CFR part 82 subpart F of the EPA. A valid Illinois Driver's License is required. Candidates selected for hire must pass a Ground Motor Vehicle Operating Regulation Basic Driving test (Yellow Stripe) administered by the Chicago Department of Aviation, within 60 days of hire. Candidates selected for hire must pass an airport background check, a Drug Test and a Security Treat Assessment (STA). WORKING CONDITIONS:
