The Town of Needham is seeking a skilled individual for the part-time position of Library Technical Services Assistant at the Needham Free Public Library. This position assists in cataloging and processing, mending, and receiving library materials, organizing department supplies, and utilizing computerized information and inventory systems.
It is an exciting time to join the Needham Free Public Library team! Our new Strategic Plan for FY2023-2027 positions the library to continue to meet the community's needs for years to come. In addition, our recent Library Space Utilization Study reimagines the library's interior space in four phases to enhance the work we do for our patrons and the community. Along with diverse collections, plentiful programming, and great services, the Needham Free Public Library is on track to be the go-to place for new and current library workers.
Schedule: Monday-Wednesday: 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Thursday: 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities

These duties are a general summary and not all inclusive:
- Processes all formats of library materials to have them ready for circulation to the public (Covers, spine labels, etc.).
- Affixes barcodes to materials and type labels for all formats of library materials.
- Assists in cataloging all Library materials, including AV and Library of Things materials and performs data entry of received materials into the regional network database.
- Opens packages and checks in items against purchase orders for accuracy and to ensure receipt of all ordered items.
- Withdraws items from Minuteman Library Network database.
- Performs specialized repairs, mending, and technical processing on Library materials.
- May assist in the Circulation Department helping patrons or with materials handling.

Requirements

The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job:
- A High School Diploma; some college preferred
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently
- Willingness to be a team player within a small department
- Capability to adapt to new technologies as required
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently, multitask, and manage time effectively with a strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
