Job Summary

Loudoun County's Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services is actively looking for qualified candidates for a full-time Maintenance Technician II position at Banshee Reeks, the County's largest and sole nature preserve, which serves as an essential resource for conservation, recreation, and environmental education. The site boasts a variety of habitats-including woodlands, meadows, wetlands, and over two miles of frontage along Goose Creek, a river designated as scenic by the state-and features more than 15 miles of trails.
This position plays a crucial role in assisting with the planning, execution, and supervision of natural resource management initiatives at Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve. The position entails working both autonomously and collaboratively within a team, focusing on trail maintenance and overall site upkeep, habitat restoration initiatives, controlling invasive plant species, managing native plantings, and executing conservation Best Management Practices (BMPs). If you have a background in natural resources and a passion for problem-solving, this could be the opportunity you have been searching for. This position is responsible for the continuous management and oversight of preserve operations.
We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
- Banshee Reeks, Leesburg, VA
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintains all equipment necessary for natural resource management and general maintenance at the preserve
- Assist with the development and management of operations.
- Assist with preserving wide programs and special events.
- May perform other essential job functions specific to the position and department assignment.
The work schedule is subject to change based on operational hours and may encompass weekdays, evenings, weekends, and potentially holidays.

Minimum Qualifications
-
High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of related work experience in basic general maintenance, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, preferably with coursework in natural resources, environmental sciences, and biology.
- At least two (2) years of related work experience in natural resources, recreation programs, and events.
- Experience in ecological land care, mechanical operations, and site stewardship.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s), to include criminal, credit, and DMV checks.
A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required. The driving record of an individual may be reviewed annually for qualification purposes. At the time of hire or within four (4) months of employment, hold First Aid/CPR certifications. County e-learning is required.
