Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Oversight

  • Maintain proactive oversight of claims to ensure that appropriate strategies are in place and reserves accurately reflect the most probable outcome of the claim.
  • Provide technical coaching in the analysis, negotiation, and strategic resolution of claims.
  • Mentor and develop team members to further their skills and knowledge.
  • Organize team workload, assign projects, and manage resources and results.
  • Positively influence the team by coaching and guiding staff through changes in the organization and industry.
  • Perform all management-related functions, including performance management, career development and training.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain quality controls to ensure work meets or exceeds standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of claim files to ensure compliance with claim handling practices.
  • Document findings, communicate feedback to team members, and provide additional training as needed.

Operational Excellence

  • Approve reserves and payments within designated authority limits and submit recommendations for those exceeding Manager authority.
  • Ensure claim handling aligns with policies, procedures, and departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate claim records and documentation.

Special Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist leadership with special projects requiring advanced claims expertise.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency within workflows.


Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of insurance laws, coverage principles, and industry practices.
  • Strong contractual analysis skills to include the analysis of insurance contracts for coverage determinations and other contracts for risk transfer obligations/opportunities.
  • Skillful negotiator.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills to meet challenges with a high degree of ownership and delivery.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of claims professionals located in multiple offices.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and be a leader within the organization.
  • Ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency with business technology and claims systems.
  • Embraces changes; invites feedback related to performance and deals constructively with criticism.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (10+ years handling commercial general liability claims).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of Commercial General Liability claims experience.
  • Valid adjuster's license in multiple jurisdictions or ability to obtain as required.

The expected salary range for this role is $100K-$130K/year.
