The Clinical Research Support (CRS) Financial Analyst performs pre- and post-award clinical trial finance budget activities including developing, analyzing, and monitoring clinical trial budgets and related operations under CRS.

Under the direction of the CRS Fiscal Supervisor, the CRS Financial Analyst performs central pre- and post-award financial functions and services related to the administration of industry sponsored projects awarded to investigators at Fred Hutch Cancer Center (Fred Hutch). As a part of the CRS Post Award team, the Financial Analyst position works closely with research study staff and central administrative departments including Contracts, Finance, Accounting, and the Office of Sponsored Research. The Financial Analyst acts as a pre- and post-award resource to study program managers across Fred Hutch's scientific divisions.

Responsibilities

    Complete post-award financial activities for industry-sponsored clinical and non-clinical research projects. These activities include but are not limited to, processing award activations, cost transfers, journal entries, labor and non-labor cost redistributions, budget reallocations and budget booking, and budget extensions in PeopleSoft, along with completion of all internal audit requirements for final project closeout.
  • In collaboration with the Fiscal Supervisor and Industry Contracts team, analyze fully executed agreements and negotiated budgets, interpret obligations to the Sponsor, and determine appropriate course of action.
  • Prepare clinical research budgets, administer necessary project payments, and track ongoing financial performance to budget over the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and analyze award funding reports and monitor project financial performance, working with study teams to identify potential issues, and making recommendations on financial oversight to team leadership.
  • Work with research and contracts teams to ensure compliance with Fred Hutch policies and sponsor requirements, identify potential compliance issues, and make recommendations on an appropriate course action to team leadership.
  • Present complex financial information in a manner that provides new insight and supports strategic decision making.
  • Gather data, analyze information, develop conclusions, communicate recommendations clearly and work effectively with others on a team; effectively translate complex data and analyses to all levels within the organization.
  • Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes and effectively accomplish assigned duties/tasks by coordinating work of teammates and other end users.
  • Support business improvement opportunities, develop high-level solutions, receive buy-in from affected departments and lead solution development and implementation project.
  • Perform quality control checks on new or revised database processes and conduct peer review of analysis by other finance department personnel for accuracy and clarity of presentation.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of PeopleSoft Query, HARP financial system reporting tools and Huron grants management system and create reports for CRS department and other end-users.
  • Perform other financial analysis and "one-off" projects as assigned.



Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Two years of experience providing fiscal program coordination, preferably in an academic or research environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with grants/contracts preferred, ideally in a research environment.
  • Collaborative and effective in managing relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills with high-level attention to detail.
  • High level of diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft for grants and financial management.
  • Experience working with Huron for grants management.
  • Experience preparing, negotiating and managing clinical trial budgets.
  • Flexible with organizational change and growth.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently on multiple projects and communicate status of projects to key persons/decision makers on a proactive basis.
  • Responsive and calm under pressure, willing to adjust work hours to meet deadlines/deliverables.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $80172 to $114,940, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
