The Broward County Transportation Department (BCT), a public transportation agency under the Broward County Board of Commissioners based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, offers fixed-route, paratransit, community shuttle, and micro transit services within Broward County, as well as certain services to the neighboring counties. In addition, BCT will implement other modes of transit to become a multimodal agency with commuter rail, light rail, bus rapid transit and high-frequency bus service to our transit network.

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Superintendent of Transportation.
General Description
Assists in the management of the Operations Section of the Transit Division, responsible for administering, organizing and implementing training programs for supervisory personnel and Bus Operators.
Works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in transportation, public or business administration or closely related field. (1 year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.) Requires 4 years in transit management and/or transit administration, including at least 2 year of lead/supervisory experience in public transit or transportation operator specific to area of assignment.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment. May require valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger and Airbrake Endorsements (with No Restrictions) based on area of assignment.

Technical Trade School Program Certification, Associate Degree, or higher in field of study related to the area of assignment

SCOPE OF WORK

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Supervises the daily operations of the Transit Division's Communications Center and Field Operations; responds to major accidents and incidents involving bus operations during work hours and after work hours; supervises and monitors performance of subordinates: issuing daily work assignments, ensuring that all assignments are completed on a timely basis.

Coordinates the Operators Run Selection pick process to ensure accuracy and efficiency; distributes reports containing statistical information regarding hours of service, passengers per hour, and runs types by percentage, payroll details, etc.

Responds to Commissioners, Administrative, Marketing, Maintenance, Operations sections and comments from the internet with any concerns, suggestions or other information that may be relevant to the Scheduling Section.

Maintains and updates seniority lists, and official picking lists for operators run selections; manages hiring process for new Bus Operators including screening, testing, interviews and selection of candidates.

Supervises activities of Transit Instructors; administers, organizes and implements training programs for new hires and current Transit employees; facilitates training sessions as personnel manpower dictates; develops, plans and organizes training and retraining lesson plans and programs for all Transit personnel.

Conducts reviews for Bus Operators who have been involved in accidents, incidents, or have committed a policy violation; writes a synopsis for all reviews; reviews downloaded video from buses for complaints, incidents, and accidents.

Acts as Transit Manager in his/her absence; assists in administering the labor contract including conducting administrative reviews; reviews absence reports and assist with payroll reconciliation; assists in making budget recommendations.

Performs related work as assigned.
