Job Summary:

This Research Services Laboratory Professional position works in the lab of Dr. Vienna Brunt, an Assistant Professor in the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension. Dr. Brunt's lab conducts translational studies (cells to mice to people) on the effects of various interventions for improving cardiovascular function in the context of kidney diseases. At minimum, the major responsibilities of the candidate will be helping to manage the wet laboratory, performing biochemical and histological analyses in mouse tissues, administering interventions in live mice, assisting with measuring kidney and vascular function in mice, and conducting biochemical analyses in blood and circulating/vascular cells from human subjects. Additional responsibilities will be based on the candidate's prior experience and interest, within the scope of the laboratory's established research program. For example, experience with cell culture is preferred and, if experienced, there will also be opportunities for performing cell culture experiments that explore mechanisms of action of the interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with managing the laboratory and ensuring the lab is prepared for daily operations. Examples include purchasing and stocking materials, maintaining equipment, updating safety procedures as needed, training other laboratory members of safety procedures, ensuring cleanliness of lab areas, and disposing of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.

  • Utilize a variety of wet laboratory techniques required to support ongoing research projects, including but not limited to animal dissection, blood processing, tissue processing, embedding, and sectioning, cell isolation, cell and tissue staining (IHC/IF), western blot/protein arrays, ELISA, PCR, etc.

  • Provide animal care related to research studies and assist with delivering interventions in live mice aimed at improving cardiovascular and kidney function.

  • Provide laboratory science expertise and contribute to study design, study oversight, data management, data analyses, and manuscript preparation to assist the PI in research activities.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, physiology, chemistry, or related field.

  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

    • An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, physiology, chemistry, or related field.

  • Two (2) years professional level research experience.

    • An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in biochemistry, molecular biology, or similar field.

  • Master's degree in biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, physiology, chemistry, or related field.

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory, including cell culture experience and/or animal research experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient to advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

  • Ability to work independently with occasional guidance.

  • Organization skills.

  • Motivated and able to take initiative to make sure projects move forward.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Willingness to work with animal models of kidney disease (mice).

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:

Intermediate Level: $50,357 - $64,054

Senior Level: $54,440 - $69,248

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
