About the Job

The Alonso-Caraballo laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Manager (Research Professional 3) to provide day-to-day operational, administrative, and scientific leadership for a research laboratory focused on neurobiology, motivation, and sex differences in behavior. This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth, compliant operation of the lab, supporting research activities, managing personnel and resources, and contributing to the execution of preclinical research studies. The Lab Manager will closely work with the Principal Investigator (Yanaira Alonso-Caraballo), trainees, and institutional partners to maintain a productive, organized, and collaborative research environment.

Position will remain open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities

70% Laboratory Operations, Compliance, and Research Administration
* Provide leadership and direction to laboratory personnel conducting systems and circuit neuroscience research, including studies of hormonal regulation of motivated behavior in rodent models
* Oversee onboarding and training of new lab members, ensuring completion of required documentation, safety training, and access to laboratory and animal facilities
* Serve as the laboratory Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with institutional safety policies and best practices
* Maintain accurate research records and data documentation in accordance with protocol, funding, and data-sharing requirements
* Prepare, submit, and maintain IACUC, IBC, and CS protocols supporting in vivo neuroscience, behavioral, and drugs of abuse studies, and coordinate responses to regulatory reviews and inspections.
* Coordinate and participate in laboratory and cross-laboratory meetings.
* Order and manage laboratory supplies, reagents, and rodent research animals.

30% In Vivo Circuit and Behavioral Neuroscience Support (as needed)
* Assist with components of rodent surgery (ovariectomies, stereotaxic surgery, etc.).
* Support behavioral testing related to motivation, reward, and decision-making.
* Maintain accurate animal tracking records, ensuring compliance with complex behavioral and neuroscience protocols.

Additional Requirements
* Occasional weekend animal checks may be required.
* Participation in a rotating on-call schedule to ensure continuous oversight of animal welfare and compliance.
* Ability to lift and move laboratory materials and equipment, including boxes of supplies, animal cages, and equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field plus at least four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least eight years.
* Demonstrated experience coordinating or managing laboratory operations.
* Experience working with rodent models in a research setting, including animal handling and familiarity with behavioral or neuroscience-related procedures.
* Working knowledge of research compliance and regulatory requirements, including preparation, submission, or maintenance of IACUC and/or IBC protocols.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a research setting.

Preferred
* Ability to train and support students or research staff in laboratory procedures, safety, and compliance expectations.
* Proficiency with standard research and administrative software (e.g., data management systems, spreadsheets, word processing, shared drives).

Pay Range: $26.95 $31.25; depending on education/qualifications/experience
