Summary: Successful operation of manufacturing facility requires meeting many Federal, State and local regulations, industry codes and standards as well as internal policies and practices. The successful candidate for this position will establish a system to ensure that Senior Aerospace SSP understands and meets all compliance requirements, including periodically assessing the compliance status of critical programs, developing action and resourcing plans with responsible parties to address any identified gaps and tracking and reporting compliance status to the sites Leadership Team.

The Health & Safety Specialist will work closely with management in directing occupational health and safety programs at the plant level. As well as provide support to departments to take a proactive approach to ensure compliance with regulatory codes, standards, and company policies. As a team member there will be an equal level of accountability, along with the management team, in promoting and accomplishing the environmental, health and safety initiatives at the plant level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned and each essential duty as listed in a satisfactory manner:

  • Develop and maintain accurate and compliant programs and procedures in EH&S
  • Coordination of Emergency Response Plan and participate as member of ICS
  • Audit and track compliance with lockout/tagout, fall protection and confined space.
  • Coordinate compliance with the Management of Change Program with Engineering, Operations and maintenance teams.
  • Calculate and track monthly Safety Statistics for Senior and Cal-OSHA Compliance.
  • Coordinate Safety Equipment Inspections and tracking
  • Facilitate incident investigations as needed.
  • Develop, track and foster the consistent use of the facility observation process.
  • Develop, track and ensure closure of EHS Action Items generated (incidents, near misses, observations, etc.)
  • Coordinate annual Fire/CUPA inspection of facility.
  • Ensure that quarterly maintenance of monorails, cranes and chain falls are completed along with annual certifications and quadrennial load tests.
  • Coordinate required annual drills with Emergency Team.
  • Coordinate biannual facility emergency evacuation drills.
  • Coordinate and maintain documentation of required employee exposure monitoring activities.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete Hazard Communication / SDS program.
  • Ensure compliance with Radiation license
  • Develop modules and conduct Health and Safety related training as required
  • Develop and implement self-assurance activities in the line organization, including training, to maintain ongoing compliance
  • Plan and execute periodic compliance audits to ensure compliance with legal requirements and Senior standards
  • Assess potential compliance risks, improvement opportunities or changes to regulations then develop and execute action plans with area teams to close gaps
  • Assess site policies and procedures to ensure that appropriate EHS risks and compliance issues are adequately addressed then develop and execute action plans with area teams to close gaps
  • Analyze incident investigation reports for trends that indicate existing operational controls might have opportunities for improvement
  • Agency liaison - OSHA, Fire Department, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Excellent writing skills to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office.
  • Ability to coach employees from a multinational workforce.
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Be able to work under hot conditions throughout the various sites' shop floors.
  • Communicate with front line leadership and with employees on the shop floor.
  • Capable to identify hazards related to work conditions, unsafe work practices.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual preferably Spanish/English.
  • Ability to drive forklift and train-in use.
  • Ability to make presentation or speak among large group of people.

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience:

    • 7 to 10 years of related experience required
    • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, technical or related field is required
    • Board certified as a CSP or CIH desirable.
