Location: Knoxville, Tennessee, 37921

Pay Rate:$21.00/hr. on w2 without benefits

Duration: 6+ months

Hours/Day: 37.5

Note: Hybrid Position (Travel Required)

Job Description:

  • The Tennessee Department of Children's Services is seeking passionate individuals for the role of Training Officer. This position delivers Pre-Service and Specialty training to newly hired Department staff. Candidates should have direct child welfare experience, strong training skills, and a commitment to trauma-informed care and the Department's Practice Model.


Role & Responsibilities

  • Deliver Pre-Service Training covering:
  • Fundamentals of Child Welfare
  • Program-specific content (CPS, Foster Care, Juvenile Justice)
  • Trauma-informed case management practices
  • The Department Practice Model & Practice Wheel (Engagement, Teaming, Assessment, Planning, Implementation, Tracking, Adjusting)
  • Self-care strategies & Motivational Interviewing
  • Facilitate Mentor Certification Programs
  • Proctor assessments and support evaluation processes
  • Participate in Case Panel Presentations and Simulation Lab activities (location dependent)
  • Provide technical assistance for virtual training delivery
  • Use Microsoft Teams and other digital platforms for training
  • Collaborate with training team and leadership to ensure quality and consistency
  • Travel required (under 75 miles each way, no overnight)


Minimum Qualifications

  • 1 year direct child welfare field experience (case management, investigations, foster care, juvenile justice)
  • 1 year training delivery/adult education/staff development experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams and virtual training tools
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor's Degree


Preferred Qualifications

  • Training experience in government or human services
  • Certification/coursework in trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, or adult learning principles


Work Conditions

  • Regional travel for in-person training
  • Hybrid environment with remote and on-site responsibilities
