About the Opportunity

DMI, LLC is seeking a highly experienced and driven Mainframe Systems Engineer to play a key leadership role supporting and managing mission-critical IBM z/OS mainframe environments. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional who enjoys solving complex system challenges, influencing platform stability at scale, and working in high-availability, enterprise environments. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and experience supporting financial services or similarly regulated, high-volume systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    Technical Support and Maintenance
    • Provide senior-level technical leadership and hands-on support for IBM z/OS mainframe systems, including installation, implementation, administration, and ongoing maintenance.

    • Lead advanced problem determination and resolution, performing system dump analysis and identifying root causes for outages and performance issues.

    System Upgrades and Fixes
    • Partner with internal teams and vendors to analyze system dumps, apply fixes and patches, and coordinate testing and deployment of new system versions.

    • Drive upgrade initiatives from planning through implementation, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum system stability.

    System Software and Infrastructure Management
    • Install, maintain, and customize z/OS operating systems and third-party ISV system software.

    • Configure, debug, and maintain TCPIP and VTAM subsystem environments.

    • Prepare and install system software in alignment with vendor standards and site-specific installation procedures.

    Large-Scale System Integrity
    • Participate in the installation, implementation, and performance testing of IBM z/OS Parallel Sysplex environments, including shared and cluster queues.

    • Manage LPAR environments, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and integrity of large, enterprise-class systems.

    Collaboration and Coordination
    • Work closely with cross-functional technical teams, business stakeholders, and vendor support to ensure smooth rollouts of new systems and enhancements.

    • Clearly communicate technical risks, issues, and solutions to staff, customers, and IT leadership at all levels.



Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six or more years of hands-on experience in mainframe systems operations and management, including TCPIP and VTAM configuration and debugging.

Technical Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of z/OSMF, AT-TLS rules, IPSEC policies, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, SDSF/ISPF, and LPAR management.

  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems integration tools and best practices.

Analytical and Communication Skills
  • Exceptional analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve highly complex system issues.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred
  • Experience supporting financial services or other highly regulated, high-availability environments.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion of a Public Trust background investigation and/or a Public Trust clearance.
