Security Service Technician

Job Summary

The Security Service Technician is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining commercial security systems, including access control, video surveillance, and related low-voltage infrastructure. This role supports clients by diagnosing system issues, performing repairs, configuring networked devices, and ensuring proper system functionality. The technician is expected to deliver high-quality customer service, follow safety standards, and maintain accurate documentation while supporting a wide range of security technologies in the field.

Job Responsibilities




  • Travel to client sites to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on security systems such as cameras, mag locks, and card readers.



  • Diagnose and resolve issues with access control system components including panels, readers, strikes, and mag locks.



  • Service and troubleshoot IP and analog cameras and Network Video Recorders (NVRs).



  • Support installation and configuration of CCTV client software on PC and mobile devices, including camera setup, recording schedules, and footage retrieval.



  • Maintain access control system interfaces by managing credentials, configuring access levels, and setting door schedules.



  • Apply basic IP networking skills to configure devices such as switches, routers, and port forwarding.



  • Install and terminate low-voltage cabling, including 22/4, 20/4, CAT5e, and CAT6.



  • Organize, dress, and label cabling from IT closets to device locations, ensuring clean and efficient cable management.



  • Build and maintain security equipment racks.



  • Install and manage cable pathways such as J-hooks and D-rings.



  • Utilize software tools for documentation including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, CCTV applications, and access control systems.



  • Follow and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layouts for service tasks.



  • Communicate professionally with clients, colleagues, and management, maintaining strong customer service standards.



  • Adhere to all safety protocols and PPE requirements while maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment.




Job Requirements




  • High school diploma or GED required.



  • Three or more years of experience installing and servicing commercial security systems.



  • Three or more years of experience with access control system installation and maintenance.



  • One or more years of experience with IP addressing and network troubleshooting.



  • Security manufacturer or product certifications preferred.



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.



  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Scissor or boom lift certification preferred.




Physical Requirements




  • Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds as needed.



  • Ability to work on feet for extended periods.




Tools




  • Must possess basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, and a tool pouch.



  • Must have steel or composite toe work boots and appropriate gloves.
