Job Summary
The Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within data center environments. This role leads a team of technicians, ensures work quality and safety compliance, and provides structured updates to stakeholders. The Lead Technician reads and interprets project documentation, supports troubleshooting and testing activities, and helps drive continuous improvement by identifying obstacles, documenting lessons learned, and ensuring project closeout requirements are met. Job Responsibilities
Install and decommission network and cabling infrastructure in data center environments.
Deliver consistent, sustainable installation practices and recommend process improvements.
Provide structured progress updates to stakeholders.
Perform high-quality workmanship and maintain data center cleanliness.
Adhere to all production, safety, quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve project obstacles.
Read and interpret blueprints, building documentation, and redline drawings.
Maintain a broad understanding of data center technologies and infrastructure.
Lead a crew of 1-5 technicians and ensure high-quality work output.
Conduct job walks and communicate customer requirements effectively.
Maintain organized paperwork and support the execution of midsize to large projects and service jobs.
Lay out MDF and IDF closets, dress cable, and perform copper and fiber terminations.
Pull low-voltage cabling and perform field terminations and labeling.
Perform copper and fiber testing, splicing, troubleshooting, and patching of network equipment.
Work with analog, DSL, and T1 line extensions as needed.
Track and submit timesheets for crew members.
Communicate effectively with foremen, leads, and technicians.
Understand and track metrics and service-level agreements.
Support network handover processes and project closeout activities.
Document lessons learned and coordinate QA/QC quality status walks.
Identify strengths and development needs of technicians.
Job Requirements
Proficiency with basic telecom hand tools.
Ability to lead a crew of 1-5 technicians.
Strong understanding of customer service principles and jobsite communication requirements.
Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
Ability to read and interpret job floor plans.
Knowledge of wiring schemes and testing methods.
Ability to pull, dress, label, and terminate low-voltage cabling.
Ability to lay out MDF/IDF closets and perform copper and fiber terminations.
Basic understanding of copper and fiber testing and troubleshooting.
Ability to work in data center environments.
Experience working with analog, DSL, and T1 technologies.
Ability to patch network equipment.
Ability to track and maintain project documentation, timesheets, and reports.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field leadership.
Understanding of metrics, SLAs, network handover, QA/QC processes, and project closeout requirements.
Ability to identify team strengths and areas for development.
