Job Summary
The Superintendent oversees field operations across multiple project sites, working closely with project management and human resources to coordinate technician workforce planning, resource allocation, and day-to-day field activities. This role provides technical direction to technicians, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, monitors productivity and scheduling, and maintains a strong understanding of applicable union requirements. The Superintendent supports pre-construction efforts, conducts routine site visits, mentors field personnel, and helps ensure successful project execution through effective communication and leadership. Job Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise during the pre-construction process, including constructability reviews and schedule development.
Contribute input during pre-bid activities as requested.
Oversee and schedule technicians across assigned geographic areas.
Administer and uphold union contract requirements related to workforce assignments, layoffs, and recalls.
Ensure leads and foremen submit daily timecards; follow up on any late submissions.
Hold team members accountable for proper maintenance of fleet vehicles and equipment.
Collaborate with project managers on workforce planning, budget hours, and material staging.
Conduct daily site visits for projects within a two-hour drive, bi-weekly visits for projects within a five-hour drive, and monthly visits for projects beyond five hours.
Maintain thorough understanding of full project scopes of work and communicate work order changes to project management.
Ensure jobsite safety requirements are understood and followed by all personnel and contractors, partnering with safety staff as needed.
Support a zero-injury work environment and participate in on-site safety meetings.
Review and communicate safety programs and MSDS information during project start-up.
Identify and correct safety hazards, reporting all incidents to leadership and safety personnel.
Review plans and specifications for constructability and scheduling considerations; communicate issues to the project team.
Understand project specifications, scope, drawings, estimates, and budget setup.
Assist project managers with quantity takeoffs and estimate pricing when applicable.
Mentor and train employees to support career progression and technical development.
Oversee post-project activities including testing, test result documentation, and as-built records.
Ensure accuracy and proper storage of test results and as-built documentation.
Participate in sequencing and activity duration planning for proposed project schedules.
Forecast technician allocation for future work and identify potential project opportunities.
Communicate project goals and expectations to field personnel.
Maintain positive relationships with clients and project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Support the development and implementation of training programs in partnership with internal training resources.
Job Requirements
Ten or more years of related experience or equivalent experience in a similar role.
OSHA 30 certification required.
Must meet motor vehicle record standards and all requirements for jobsite access and badging.
Familiarity with construction management software.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
Strong ability to read and understand building plans and specifications.
Effective collaborator with field supervision, project management, and administrative teams.
