SUMMARY OF POSITION

Technician responsible for dispensing materials to process orders and performing the appropriate documentation and procedures to maintain proper inventory.

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE

The Dispensing Technician reports to the Receiving and Shipping Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Understands work processes and the theory of operation for tasks being performed.
  • Utilizes computer skills to access views, print, and complete entries.
  • Performs technical procedures within their skill level.
  • Initiate/Perform troubleshooting and utilize higher level skilled folks as a resource as needed.
  • Works efficiently, minimizing distractions and manages time to accomplish work by expected deadlines. Provides progress reports when requested.
  • Operate, assemble, disassemble measure, test, material handling, dispensing equipment as required.
  • Complete all required documentation to GMP standards and maintain good housekeeping standards in your work areas.
  • Pick up, store, stage and dispense materials.
  • Understands and uses the BAS system to access and lock critical areas.
  • Understands the operation and use of the Downflow Booths.
  • Understands the operation and use of the Solvent Dispensing MOD.
  • Understands the operation and use of the Howorth Isolator.
  • Understands the operation and use of the La Calhene Isolator.

Documentation Expectations:

  • Search and retrieve required documents from QUMAS.
  • Completes a dispensing ticket to include critical information.
  • Complete a preventative maintenance work order and breakdown sheet.
  • Prints dispensing tickets, SAP Material expiration/retest information and reconciliation worksheets.
  • Prints piece labels, verification labels, trash labels.
  • Review and input to advanced technician for training documents (i.e. SOP's, Safe Practices, Work Instructions, EN, MCA, VCC and Work Processes.)
  • Mark off dispensed orders on visual schedule.
  • Requests new logbook and closes completed books.
  • Starts Dispensing Material calculations.

Inventory Control and SAP:

  • Utilize SAP to access and print views.
  • Initiates a reconciliation form.
  • Understands and can articulate the differences between US01 and US11.
  • Able to utilize both US01 and US11 plants.
  • Understand the requirements to create, delete and change the bill of materials.
  • Understand the theory of inventory and articulate the process order flow of materials into, though, and out of Dispensing.
  • Can apply basic knowledge of the physical attributes of raw materials (ie. carbomer, dyes, actives).
  • Explain component usage (FEFO, FIFO, returns, additions etc.)

Material Ordering:

  • Follow first expiry first out (FEFO) on materials when possible.
  • Determine plant designation for material (i.e.- US01- US11).
  • Determine material is released and not restricted from use.
  • Print SAP documents- Exp Date, Assay as required (signed by QA).
  • Create labels for each material.
  • Perform all related calculations.
  • Retrieve materials from multiple locations (Highrise, Dispensing, Receiving, PRD, P-S, Controlled areas).

Dispensing:

  • Confirm dispensing room readiness (M/M or P/P complete and Logged).
  • Sign Records into dispensing room.
  • Inspects and examines critical components to dispense.
  • Identifies and documents component material and component batch numbers.
  • Ensure dispensed items are released and within retest / expiration date with no supervision.
  • Confirm material descriptions and material numbers are correct with no supervision.
  • Set up room for dispensing including containers, liners, and dispensing tools with no supervision.
  • Dispense to the following:
  1. Order
  2. Stock Requisition
  3. Order For Shipment
  • Check in materials for dispensing following appropriate procedures- one at a time.
  • Clean drums and containers- wipe and/or Vacuum
  • Set up the scale for use
    • Complete accuracy checks, verify calibration
    • Enter Batch number and material number into the scale HMI
  • Determine dispense strategy- pass through, new containers, or a combination of both with no supervision.
  • Tare container.
  • Scoop materials/adjust to meet the targeted weight on new or pass-through containers.
  • Calculate container(s) as required to total target weight.
  • Calculate lot changes as required.
  • Print scale labels.
  • Label containers properly and verify the correct MN, BN, and Tare weight.
  • Perform calculations as needed (exclusive of active/assay calculation confirmation).
  • Able to articulate the process flow of materials throughout dispensing with an understanding of the return process.
  • Able to complete the physical returns from all areas, ensure inventory quantities and location is correct. Communicate with higher level technician and other business units when discrepancies are found.
  • Complete yearly inventory counts.
  • Dispense within the Howorth Isolator with no supervision.
  • Able to fix minor issues with the Howorth Isolator.
  • Dispense within the La Calhene Isolator with no supervision.
  • Able to fix minor issues with the La Calhene Isolator.
  • Dispense within the Solvent Suite using an electric pump with no supervision.
  • Able to work safely with explosive/hazardous materials with no supervision.
  • Able to navigate through the system using the HMI screen; monitoring the system for proper operation before and while the Alcohol Dispensing System is in use (pump, purge, drain) with no supervision.
  • Able to fix minor issues within the Alcohol Dispensing System.
  • Dispense within the Downflow booth with no supervision.
  • Able to navigate through the system using the HMI screen; monitoring the system for proper operation before and while the Downflow booth is in use (air flow, condition/state of filers, humidity levels) with no supervision.
  • Able to fix minor issues within the Downflow Booths

Equipment and Cleans:

  • Understands and uses equipment to dispense and pick up pharmaceutical materials. (walkie stackers, jacks, downflow booth, isolator, electric pump, screens).
  • Cleans equipment and modules for regular housekeeping duties.
  • Able to safely inspect, operate, charge material handling equipment such as jacks, walkie stackers, and basic hand tools with no supervision.
  • Knowledge of safe and responsible operation, maintenance, and organization required for tools and equipment used in the performance of your job to protect self and others in the workplace.
  • Able to safely select and work from ladders as required with no supervision.
  • Completes area cleans as needed.
  • Able to clean the following Equipment without supervision
    1. Howorth Isolator
    2. La Calhene Isolator
    3. SS Vats/Tanks
    4. Drums
    5. Scales
    6. Solvent pumps, filter, and lines
  • Able to perform appropriate cleans on the following areas without supervision.
    1. Vaults
    2. Dispensing areas
    3. Solvent Room
  • Able to utilize the scale pullers as needed with no supervision.
  • Able to navigate through the system using the HMI screen for the scales with no supervision.
  • Able to fix minor issues with the scales.

Leadership and Mastery

  • Coaches, trains, and qualifies lower-level technicians.
  • Attends train the trainer class.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, pushing and pulling.
  • Reach and perform work above the head.
  • Use hands for fine manipulation and repetitive tasks.
  • Climb stairs/ladders/platforms, etc. on equipment for purposes of operating, maintaining and troubleshooting.
  • Lift objects up to 40 pounds without assistance or over 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Manipulate, tip, roll, and place a drum weighing up to 200 pounds onto scales and pallets.
  • Use basic hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, and other hand tools as required.
  • Operate high speed equipment.
  • Use basic math skills for batch record calculations & analyze data.
  • Operate a computer to input and access data.
  • Troubleshoot and replace basic equipment components.
  • Meet the requirements of safe operation and personal safety by understanding and properly using required personal protective equipment including PAPR and following safe practices.
  • Give and discern the various visual and audible alarms and signals for equipment startup, evacuation, fires, etc.
  • Read and apply SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures) to daily work to meet cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) compliance.
  • The ability to effectively participate in decision making processes incorporating the following skill: Conflict Resolution, Problem Solving, Planning, Effective Communications, Time Management & Priority Setting.
  • Maintain accurate records and data.
  • Read, write legibly, and comprehend high school level material, as well as technical training materials on various operations and systems in the language that is the accepted norm for the site.
  • Know and use the terminology and functions of machines and components.
  • Maintain acceptable attendance.
  • Comply with random drug testing.
  • Work overtime as required as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic mathematical and mechanical skills.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures to perform work function.
  • Sound judgement and operates with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with computers and the use of MS Office Suite programs
  • Team player and ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
  • Attention to Detail
  • Excellent problem-solving and oral and written communication skills.
  • L2: Level 1 qualified.
  • High school diploma or GED Comfortable with computers and the use of MS Office Suite programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SAP experience
  • 3+ years related pharmaceutical experience

GMP DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY

  • Provides Input to Change Controls.
  • Assures product meets expiration, retest dates, and visual inspection.
  • Inputs into cGMP and Safety documentation.
