Position Summary:
Plans, supervises and oversees daily operations of the anesthesia technicians/technologists. Selects, trains, supervise and evaluate staff. Prepares work schedules, monitors and evaluates work volume and patient flow and organizes and delegates work assignments to meet coverage and patient care requirements. Performs duties of anesthesia technician and provides advanced anesthesia technical services as needed. Oversees orientation of new employees.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plans, organizes and supervises daily operations for designated anesthesia processing services. Monitors work flow and prioritize work assignments to meet established schedules and clinical requirements.
  • Interviews, hires, orient, train, develop, and discipline staff as necessary. Performs annual performance appraisals and recommends merit increases in conjunction with the Department administrator and consistent with Hospital policy.
  • Ensures proper working condition of all equipment. Coordinates with Health Technology Management on any repairs.
  • Identify capital equipment needs for the department. Oversees use and maintenance of equipment, physical space and supply inventory and monitors related expenses.
  • Performs administrative duties that may include: employee scheduling, evaluations and program development, reviewing job descriptions and service agreements.
  • Ensures that protocols are followed by the technical staff and are in line with the needs of the professional staff and other hospital and healthcare standards including Infection Control policies.
  • Directs the activities of staff and assigns weekly schedules, including the daily work assignments, overtime, holiday, vacation, sick time and on-call.
  • Performs duties of anesthesia technician and provides advanced anesthesia technical services as needed.
  • Responds to STAT call in OR and all other perioperative locations.
  • Monitors current safety, infection control and other requirements and implements procedural changes as needed to ensure compliance.

Minimum Qualifications
Education/ Certification:
  • Completion of formal educational program in Anesthesia Technology OR Anesthesia Technologist certification by American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians (ASATT).
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an anesthesia technician/technologist.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
