Overview

How you can make a difference

Are you ready to shape the future of risk management in a rapidly evolving tech landscape? HealthEquity's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Team is on the hunt for a visionary Operational Risk Director who thrives at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and resilience. This is more than a leadership role-it's a chance to architect the next generation of operational risk practices in a dynamic, tech-forward environment. You'll be central to the continued development and implementation of our ERM Program, working alongside senior leaders and cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate the risks that matter most. And here's the twist: we're looking for someone who's passionate about AI-its potential, its pitfalls, and its power to reshape industries. If you're tuned into emerging AI trends, understand the risks they pose, and are eager to embed AI awareness into enterprise risk strategy, we want to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

Lead the Second Line's strategic approach to operational risk, with a focus on technology, product, change management, and business risks.

  • Champion AI risk awareness across the enterprise-help us stay ahead of emerging threats and opportunities.

  • Partner with Technology, Product, IT, Security, Operations, and Strategy teams to challenge assumptions and elevate risk practices.

  • Design and implement best-in-class operational risk frameworks, including policies, procedures, risk appetite, KRIs, and board reporting.

  • Own and evolve operational risk dashboards for dynamic monitoring and executive insights.

  • Conduct data-driven risk assessments, including modeling worst-case scenarios and planning mitigation strategies.

  • Align ERM with strategic planning, budgeting, enterprise prioritization, and 10-K risk disclosures.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across ERM, Compliance, and Internal Audit.

What you will need to be successful

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MBA, JD) in risk management, business, finance, or technology.

  • 8-12 years of experience in operational risk, with deep expertise across product, IT, security, privacy, and financial crime.

  • Experience with GRC platforms (e.g., Archer, ServiceNow) and data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau).

  • Background in regulated financial services or consulting for financial institutions.

  • Public company experience preferred.

  • Proven ability to challenge the First Line and escalate issues with confidence.

  • Exceptional communication skills-able to translate complex risk concepts into clear, actionable insights.

  • Intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking, and a passion for emerging technologies like AI.
