The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it. We build it. Join our team as a Engineer Reliability.

Job Summary

This Reliability Engineer position will lead verification-validation test planning across all systems as part of the Current Product - Cost Productivity team within Engineering. This individual will work alongside the Reliability Engineers within Vehicle & Systems Engineering as well as systems engineering or Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to pull baseline DFMEAs and create robust DVP&Rs.

Job Responsibilities




  • Design Reviews: Co-lead design reviews with design engineers that focus on requirements, design & development activities, and verification actions.
  • DFMEA: Coordinate DFMEA discussions and reviews for mechanical and electromechanical systems to identify potential failure modes and their effects. Maintain and contribute to the DFMEA database.
  • DVP&R: Create detailed verification plans with appropriate test and simulation activities to ensure all designs meet their requirements and specifications.
  • Supplier Engagement: Engage with component/system suppliers to oversee their verification and validation strategies, development, and success during development and throughout production.
  • Failure Analysis: Participate in root cause analysis when development and verification failures are realized and ensure corrective actions are followed and captured.
  • Data Analysis: Perform statistical analysis on data sets related to test and simulation results to identify trends and confirm design robustness.
  • Warranty: Complete warranty data compilations as needed and participate in current product quality initiatives.
  • Metrics: Track critical reliability metrics and report findings to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Process & Tools: Continuously improve the reliability processes and tools and stay connected to software tool suppliers to understand current capabilities and future releases. Automate inefficient processes wherever warranted by cost, time, or accuracy.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Proactively engage with the engineering peers and all those contributing to the reliability plan and development across the organization. Provide regular updates to stakeholders and senior leaders through efficient and effective written and verbal communication. Elevate awareness of top issues and risks. Drive lessons learned into System baseline test plans and DFMEA (knowledge capture).
  • Prioritization: Prioritize the work based on project deadlines and lead the validation planning activity across all projects to ensure completion on time.



Education Requirements




  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related technical field required



Required Experience & Skills




  • Typically requires a minimum of 3years of related experience
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of product reliability, testing, or quality engineering
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating concepts to others in a clear, concise, and understandable manner
  • Demonstrated experience with Product Verification & Validation Test planning and execution
  • Demonstrated skill in cross functional collaboration
  • Demonstrated skill in problem-solving, critical thinking, with strong mechanical aptitude



Preferred Experience & Skills




  • A minimum of 2 years in a reliability engineering role
  • Experience working with international teams virtually
  • Familiarity with XFMEA (ReliaSoft)
  • Familiarity with Helix ALM (Perforce), Power BI, and JIRA (Atlassian)
  • Familiarity with Functional Safety (FuSa) / Certified ISO 26262
  • Practitioner of Red X problem solving techniques (fishbone, causal diagram, SIPOC)
