About the Job

As a member of OIT's Data Infrastructure Management agile team, you will provide operational support to maintain a stable infrastructure to meet the needs of the University and champion the continuous improvement of existing data storage management practices. The role involves managing the support ticket queue and monitoring the Data Infrastructure ecosystem as well as efforts to modernize our operations. These efforts include leveraging automation, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and machine learning (ML) techniques to optimize performance, enhance security, and ensure a stable infrastructure for University digital data assets spanning across the entire enterprise, with a strong focus on research data sets. You will work closely with collaborative cross-unit teams who make up the entire IT stack to achieve shared goals. This position requires the ability to operate within industry standard practices, adapt to and quickly learn new processes and technologies, and handle multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously with a close attention to detail under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Triage, research and resolve reported data storage issues. Provide escalation support for data storage related issues.
  • Perform regular software maintenance and communicate maintenance with customers.
  • Responsible for all operational aspects of data storage systems including performance, integrity, and security. Ensure redundant systems are properly maintained and are available for activation if required.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts to enhance security, threat detection, and ransomware protection for data storage systems.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures/documentation.
  • Share knowledge and mentor student workers on the team.
  • Participate in 24x7 on call support with a weekly rotating schedule, including weekends.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or a comparable combination of education, training, and/or experience to equal at least four years.
  • Professional, internship/student worker or educational experience with:
    • developing automation workflows using scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and applying machine learning techniques for system administration tasks such as predictive maintenance, backups, or permission management.
    • Windows administration
    • troubleshooting errors and performance bottlenecks and implementing resolutions with general direction
  • Exceptional communication; ability to tailor messages to the audience (whether technical or non-technical, individual contributor to executive).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Customer support experience. High level of comfort assisting non-IT customers on best practice application of technology and data storage.
  • Experience working as Systems Administrator in a 24x7 operational support role.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, scikit-learn) for managing and optimizing data storage infrastructure.
  • Understanding of patching, upgrades, backup and recovery.
  • Experience working with Agile teams.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $72000 - $82000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
